Hi,

Can someone please advise me what can I do about my daughter's smelly feet. I observed that when she started school this year in August, her feet started smeling pretty bad. At first I thought its her sneakers, but I washed those thoroughly and dried them in the sun, but the smell still continuous. Has anybody else observed this with their kids. Please help!

Thanks,
P.

It's most definitely some kind of fungus (candida, athlete's foot etc..) so get the powder to apply on her clean feet (dry them really well because fungi prosper in wetness) and tell her to absolutely NOT wearing her shoes without socks. These should be worn once and changed, then washed with a disinfectant. I would not ler her use those shoes for a while just in case some are still in there, give them time to die out. Get her new shoes when you start the treatment so she won't get them again. Good luck.

My 17 month old daughter has super stinky feet! It's one of the few things she inherited from me. They start to smell even after just a few hours in cotton socks only. We talked to her pediatrician and she recommended putting Gold Bond powder in her shoes (which I haven't done yet) and using deodorant on her feet before putting her feet into anything (shoes, socks, footie jammies). We bought some Tom's all-natural deodorant and it has helped immensely!
I asked a question about my daughter's stinky feet on here before seeing her pediatrician and some of the answers were ridiculous, suggesting major health issues and that dietary restrictions were needed. Take everything with a grain of salt and see your doctor if you have any concerns, but don't let some of the answers you're bound to get freak you out. Good luck!

We have a couple of stinky pairs of feet at our house. Like some other moms have said sometimes it's been foot fungus and I've found foot spray is easier on kids than cream. Once we get the fungus clear, using deodorant on feet before they go into shoes not only helps with the smell, it also seems to keep the fungus from coming back since the feet aren't such a good host - they don't get so hot and sweaty.

Does she wear socks? Just bare feet will get stinky.
Or try odor eaters... maybe they have kid sized kind.

Or baby powder of foot powder in her shoes???

My daughter ahd that problem 2 years ago. It was horrible. Her feet smelled up the whole house. We tried soaking in tea, using Odor Eaters shoe inserts--which just got super smelly after only a few days. One thing that did work was making her wash her feet when she got up in the morning, when she got home from school, and before going to bed. I bought Dial soap since it is a bit stronger than our usual. She would spray her feet with Tea Tree oil that I put in a little spray bottle and put on clean socks. She also sprayed her shoes with foot spray. The next step was have her soak in Listerine but the Tea Tree oil did the trick. So far this year, it is okay, but winter is not here yet with boots and such. She should not wear the same shoes everyday so they can air out. And always wear socks.

Are her shoes real leather? If not, they will smell worse.

My daughter had the same problem when I purchased shoes for her that were not leather but constructed with all man-made material. Your daughter needs breathable shoes on her feet. No plastic crocks or plastic sneakers. Rub some athletes foot cream on her feet for a few weeks and make sure she wears socks with her shoes. You want to keep the feet dry.

Good luck!

My feet have always stunk! There's not a lot you can do other than keep clean socks on her feet and spray the insides with some type of deodorant. My mother says she picked up a foot of mine to kiss when I was about 6 months old and it stunk! I believe her because both of my boys have stinky feet -ages 4 and 22m. Some people (like me) have extremely sweaty feet and it makes them stink. I clearly remember my tennis shoes and other school shoes smelling horrible when I was 6.

This may be obvious but does she wear socks with her sneakers? Are her shoes ventilated? Also, what kind of diet is she eating? Green vegetables contain chlorophyll which works as a natural deodorant- worth a try.

We use odor eater inserts and change them regularly -- feet have BO too and need deodorant:) I did notice they didn't smell so much the more water she drank, and the more often I cleaned and changed out shoe inserts. I have to remind my girl to always drink from the fountain after using the bathroom or her feet get smelly too.

Good luck with all the tip-trying:)
