Any unique ideas for 50th Wedding Anniversary celebrations? This is for my in-laws who live in Kankakee. Any type of idea appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the ideas. We ended up just doing an extended family dinner (24 people) at 1875 restaurant (food & service was good; room itself was just ok). They let us bring our own cake in for an $8 cutting fee. My one good, somewhat unique, idea was this: I gathered family pictures. I then emptied out all the gold and silver frames that I already owned and then bought a couple extra and put all the family pictures including their wedding picture and a recent picture of my inlaws in the assorted gold and silver frames. We then arranged them on an extra table in the room with a white table cloth, a gold floating candle, and a few other gold decorations (nice selection at Pier 1 - actually Christmas decs). It looked really nice.

My parents and in laws recently celebrated their 40th anniversaries. We bought the same gifts for both of them and making it to be a something very memorable. Since 40th in ruby, we found Waterford ruby crystal champagne flutes and a bottle of champagne. They loved them. The 50th anniversary I believe is golden so you could find something crystal with a gold band (you can find great daels or ebay or at outlets/costco) or something from things remembered and have it engraved. We found that by this point in their marriage and lives there was not a lot that they really needed but this was something that showed what a memorable celebration it was. Hope that helps!

Hi A. - my husband and I both grew up in kanakakee. You might want to call the Perry Farm (in bourbonnais) they have pretty gorunds, you could do a fall-thing there. Or 1875, that restaurant is nice - we have had mother's day brunches there and friends of our actually did their wedding reception there - it is nice. Good luck!

Hi A.,

Lots of good ideas so far. I have friends who just did a 50th and they had each child and grandchild make a page of a scrapbook. It was really neat and so appreciated. You could add that to any of the other ideas so far.

My in-laws just celebrated their 50th. They renewed their vows at the church the are very involved in. Then a reception followed, like a mini wedding. Their bridal party was there and old friends from when they got married, to new friends since they have been married. My brother-in-law had their "video" transfered to DVD. I made them a quilt with pictures from their wedding day to present.
Let me know what you decide. My parents 40th is coming up

Did you ever think about having a 50th anniversary bash at Brookfield zoo? I was planning my parents 30th anniversary there until I found out I was pregnant, and due around the same time as the party. But, while I was planning the party, their party co-ordinators were very helpful, they helped me to plan a party around my limited budget. I'm sure the party would have been beautiful, if we were able to do it. To be honest, I'm happy about the baby, but really wish we could of had the party.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

For my in-laws' anniversary, they bought t-shirts that looked like they were wearing a bride's dress and tux and wore them and looked silly, but cute and had their pictures made in them (by family.)
Also, my husband made a scrapbook for them of photos of the family that they might not have copies of(contacted family members for these) and wrote stories of moments they remembered and typed them up. It sits on their coffee table and is so much fun to look through! They can relive all the good times they may have forgotten.

Hi A.,
Beside doing the party for my parents 50th, these are extras that I did that people just loved.
1) emailed/called all those coming and asked them if they had old photos of my parents/0r stories to go with the pics.
2) Made a photo album of their life togther.
3) This took alot of time, but was well worth it. I researched the music of their time of dating (for my parents that was 1951) and made 5 CD's of music of "Their Time". I went as far back as 1945 and as now as 1971 (moon river with Andy Williams). You can go online and get all this info.
You can dl some, but others i had to buy the CD. (HINT: i joined the BMG music club and got 12 free CD, which i ordered all the the oldies that I found online. If u need any help here, I'd be glad to find some info, as long as their is enough time to do it.
Enjoy! Not many parents make it this far.
