My husband bought our 3 yr old some "hubba bubba bubble tape" on Saturday. Long story short he ate the entire 6 ft. of bubble gum in about a half hours time. I just want to make sure all will be ok. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I must say everything went "smoothly". Thank goodness. My mother is our sitter for part of the day while we work and she said he had normal bowel movements, just a tad bit larger than normal!! LOL, silly little guy. He does great with regular chewing gum, chews one pc at a time and keeps it in his mouth, but NO MORE BUBBLE TAPE!

Just an added reminder---any upset stomach complaints should be followed by some comment about why it's happening, something like, "all that gum made you feel bad". This is what we call "a teaching moment". My son ate a bunch of my bcp's when he was 2. Dr. said he'd be fine, just remind him every time he throws up that pills made him sick. For at least 3 years after that, you could ask him about pills, and his response was always the same--"pills make you sick!"

He may get Bound up and not be able to have a bowl movement. It's not good to give too much gum to children as they tend to swallow it and it doesn't digest well. Its not good to be swallowed by children Or adults.May have to give a lazative if doesn't have a movement, like in a days total.Ask your family physician or you can call your Emergency Room and they will give FREE advice.Good Luck and Hope I have been of some assistance.

lol...all that sugar! He'll be fine:) There's no truth to that old wives tale that it stays in your system for 7 years. I doesn't digest, but it passes through the system quickly. It's already out by now!

I think he will probably just have some stomach upset, and frequent trips to the bathroom.

Hi M. - he's going to be fine. My niece ate probably 30 pieces of bubblegum when she was 5. He's not going to digest all that gum so the next 24-hours are going to be pretty interesting in the bathroom!!

You can always call poison control to make sure.

I remember doing something like that when I was a kid, but I was a little older. If my memory serves me right, my only regret was the laxative I had to take because it made me constipated, but to be on the safe side, perhaps you should give your pediatrition a call and ask him.

I imagine he should be fine...aside from a belly ache. If you're really concerned you can always call poison control and ask. If he's not exhibiting any symptoms of anything being wrong by now though...I'm sure he's fine.
