2 Month Old Having Eczema, Cradle Cap and Interteigo

I went through this with my son as well! He suffered until he was about nine months old. That's when I took him to a pediatric dermatologist. If I had it to do over, I would have taken him to her immediately. One visit and she prescribed medicine that cleared up his rash in two weeks. Did your doctor investigate any sort of allergies? I have a couple friends whose babies had eczema and both were allergy-related. One ended up being a peanut allergy. The other was a milk allergy. If you're nursing, you can talk to your doc or lactation consultant on how to alter your diet to eliminate common allergens (milk, gluten, nuts, eggs, strawberries, soy, to name a few) then gradually re-introduce them to determine the cause of his outbreaks. If he's formula-fed, you might try switching to a dairy-free formula. Your pediatrician should be able to recommend some, and probably even give you samples.

As far as creams to reduce irritation, be careful abut Eucerin. If you check the ingredients you'll find that it's petroleum jelly (which is vaseline) and lanolin. A lot of people are sensitive to lanolin. You might go with straight vaseline (which is TONS cheaper than Eucerin anyway) or other creams. I've heard good things about Burt's Bees, Arbonne baby, and an aloe-based gel from Mannatech called Emprizone.

Hey, Tonya! My little girl had eczema when she was a baby, too. And, we have no family history of it, either! We used Arbonne's Baby Care line on it and it worked wonders! WE still use it (she's two years now!) on her and my 4 year old as well. I don't know if she has outgrown it or if the Arbonne stuff is just keeping it at bay, but she hasn't had a breakout (knock-on-wood) in over a year! My daughter is 12 now and she had eczema on her legs and feet when she was born. No prescription product worked for us.

My Dr. said that she could "grow out of it" and by age 5 most of it was gone. We use her favorite calamine lotion to help itching now. I have learned now that she is understanding the concept of cause and effect because if she is outside in the grass barefoot, her eczema is worse. When we are at the beach, it is dramatically better.

There is no family history for us either. At this point, her spots are only on her big toes and a little in the arch of her foot.

I still use Aveno, Eucerin, Bag Balm, and numerous other products. She prefers calamine lotion.

Good luck and maybe your baby will grow out of most of it.

My daughter had cradle cap and still has eczema (she is 8). I also have a nephew the same way, same age. Both my sister and I found that for cradle cap:

Apply olive oil to scalp and come with a fine toothed baby comb. Let the oil soften up the skin though. This will go away on its own though, it bothers the mommy's more than the babies.

For the eczema:
Dove soap and vaseline. I use the "nursery" scented kind so that she doesn't smell like a vat of oil. Now that she is older we use Aveeno, or Eucerin Calming, and she uses "itchy" cream as needed. although, after all these years and many experiments, Dove soap and vaseline work the best.

Also, not bathing everyday, every other day is good. Not sure what interteigo is sorry.

Well my son is now 18 months and he has suffered with ezcema since birth. Basically nothing I have used or that has been prescribed by the doc has worked and his case is severe. I used aveno products for him and give him oatmeal baths and use their lotion. I stops the flarring and itching for him.

This sounds just like what happened to my twin boys! They had TERRIBLE cradle cap (think big open wound on their heads) that eventually 'went away' but developed into eczema on their heads and all over their bodies. We went through no less than 4 different prescription medications and just about every lotion that you can buy at the store. They just weren't getting any better. FINALLY, when they were 2 1/2 we discovered through process of elimination that they were sensitive to the chemicals in every day stuff (cleaners, laundry, bath & body). Once we switched to stuff that doesn't have ammonia, bleach, or formaldehyde, their skin was just about clear in about 3 weeks. I could go on and on. My doctor perscribed Derma-Smooth and we coat his skin with that and then cover that with Eucerin. We also found out that he is allergic to milk and switched him to soy. Consistency with his meds and lotion and watching his diet has paid off and his skin looks so much better. He's 15 months old now and doing much better.

I have a little red head that has very sensitive skin, eczema being an issue as well. We use Cetaphil (the wash and the lotion) and it works great! J&J, Aveeno and all the other products are still too harsh for her. The key also is not to actually bath everyday but if that is an enjoyment for your son it is hard not to.

Hello Tonya. My son had the same thing when he was born and they said to put head and shoulders on which I being a brand new mom would try anything. Let me tell you it made him cry since it was very hurtful to his eyes. Also, my son had ezcema but it did not start until he was 5 months old and it was sever enough we had to put steriod cream on it.
