Hello Moms,

I have a 17 mo. old boy with a small rash on the left side of his face. I have tried everything from hydrocortisone, butt paste, triple paste, prescription for yeast infection, cutivate, and have even seen our pediatrician who recommended Eledil (sp?) which I have also tried. The dr. said it was just clogged pores...it’s been 4 weeks now and the rash just won't go away. Luckily it doesn't bother him at all...its not itchy or anything...it seems as though he doesn't even know its there which is why I haven't been too worried about it. Does anyone have any other suggestions or have had a similar experience? Thank you in advance for your replies! : ) K.

My daughter got a rash around her face and nose every fall through spring from asge 1 to 4. It never bothered her but I was worried other kids would make fun of her. I was also given Elidel but I didn't really see much change plus I was afraid it would have long term effects on her. It went away when I stopped using baby wipes to wipe her face after she ate. Might have been a fluke but it hasn't been back so think about the things that come in comment with his skin, carseat, pillow, sheets, toothpaste, just try to eliminate the options.

Occasionally my kids have gotten rashes when they are teething, have dry skin, etc. What has ALWAYS worked for me is the brand Mustela. It's hypoallergenic and they have a ton of products - from bath stuff to lotions. It is a little costly (found at Babies R Us) but quite honestly, a little goes a long way and it's worth the extra $$ since it works! The stuff that works great on the face looks like it's in a deodorant stick. I think it's called hydrastick. Unfortunately my kids are blessed with my sensitive skin and this product works wonders for all of us! If it is clogged pores - I don't think you will find much that will help. If you are wanting a good cleanser for kids - try cetaphil brand - they have a soap and lotion that is good for babies/kids. I know my friend that has kids with eczema highly recommends that and my dermatologist recommended it to me after I asked her about the best products out there for kids to use. With my dtr in dance - they occasionally wear a little eye makeup and she loves playing dress up with makeup. It's hard to find facial soap for kids to get that stuff off but cetaphil works great for that as well as getting temporary tattoos off. Good Luck!

I'm with Melissa on this one. Using creams and steroids on rashes does not get to the "why" behind the rash. A food allergy or sensitivity may likely be the issue. Remember, when kids have external symptoms, it's because something is happening inside that we can not see. Address the cause and the symptoms will subside.

I have a Dr. in Edina that I use. Dr. Carrie Clark at 50th and France Chiropractic. www.edinachiropractic.com She's a pediatric chiro and is very good.

I'd also be willing to help you with an elimination diet if you feel like you could ue some help.

We always try tea tree oil on any of those sorts of things. In this case, I would probably mix a little in with some natural lotion to rub it on. It is amazing the number of things it has cured in our house. You can find it at a health foods store, but I'm not sure where else.

hey there....my suggestion would be to stop using any product with "sodium laurel sophate" in it...try a natural soap product like california baby....i had a rash on my face since highschool....for 20 years i dealt with this before i found out about "sls" and switched to all natural products...that's now what i use for my daughter too...it's expensive, but i am a believer in natural now, the rash went away and hasn't been back.....baby's skin absorbs everything you put onto it, so that and my rash made me look into what i wanted for my daughter....now i use products i know are paraben sls free...good luck

I would have to suggest that it might be an allergy. Try cutting out the major players: refined sugar, wheat/ gluten, but try egg first. I know the difficulty of doing it, I've had to do it in the past, but if you can't break down egg (the simplest protein of all) then you'll have problems the rest of your life (I know it's your son...) I haven't checked where you are at, but if you're in the Twin Cities, google Heartland Healing out of Hastings. Dr. Jody is one of the most qualified in the Cities and has treated/ cured a few friends and their kids with issues. Good luck!

I would like to recommend the Aloe Vera Gelly along with the Aloe Liquid Soap.

I had recommended the products to four (4) different persons and I have gotten favourably results from each one of them. Even though 2 of them it is working but slow the other 2 said they are very happy with what the had seen in two weeks, three weeks respectively.

You can download the website www.foreverlivingproducts.com to have a look at the different products.

A Little About Me

I'd visit a pediatric dermatologist. Just my thoughts, but if indeed you have tried all that you mention above, I'd seek the help of a specialist. Does your son have any other symptoms?

Another totally random suggestion - it could be a heat rash or chaffed skin. My daughter had it on her chin and around her mouth at one time and I used Aquaphor (Wal-Greens, Wal-Mart, Target). Expensive, but worked like a charm, and safe fro the mouth area.

This may be random. Our son would get a rash on one side when he slept on sheets at another house. When an adjustment was made, the rash went away.
