So What Happened?

SO it has been about a week now with no annoying grinding! That really did stop as soon as it started. Thanks to everyone for the responses!

Hi V., my daughter, 16 mths old now, did this too. They do it to relieve the pain of teething. She eventually stopped. Just treat the teething with whatever your Pediatrician suggests and that's all you can pretty much do. My Ped. suggests Infant Tylentol and teething rings and other stuff like that. A few months ago I started using Baby Orajel, though she hates it at first, putting it on I mean, but in a few seconds she's fine. I only do it at night. Some Mom's use Motrin at night because it lasts longer, but it made my daughter a little loopy, like Nyquil makes adults. Good luck.

My now 7 year old grinds his teeth and has always done it. I was told just to pull down on his chin and tell him not to do it ( when he was a baby). Now he only does it when stressed but as soon as I say something he stops.
I hope this helps.

My daughter did the same thing around that age. We just decided to ignore it (even though we cringed every time she did that) and within a few weeks it stopped.

My husband is a dentist and he told me to tell you that usually babies will grind for a few days/weeks and then will subside. Even if your child grinds constantly, there is nothing you can do and honestly nothing you need to do. This will not affect their teeth development. He said it is worse on the parent than on the child. We can sympathize with how you are feeling though.

Hello,
I have an 11 month old son who now has 8 front teeth and 1 1yr molar. Back when he had only a few teeth he used to grind them ALL THE TIME and it drove me crazy(I can't stand that sound). He didn't do it for that long though, maybe a week or so. I think they're just figuring out that the teeth are there and that they can rub them together and make a noise. It should stop soon, don't worry.
Happy days to you and your family.
