I am just looking for suggestions for new food ideas for my son, especially finger foods (which he LOVES). He has 6 teeth and eats just about anything. I am looking for things that are easy to make in small portions at a time, won't spoil right away, or can be frozen because either it is just for him or the three of us. Finger foods he eats are toast or bread, tortillas, O's, Kix, Gerber puffs, shredded cheese, goldfish crackers, and sometimes pasta. I usually mash his fruits/veggies and give with a spoon because they seem too slippery for him still. Thanks!

I do already give him anything we eat, I just don't always want him eating pizza and such as much as we do! :) I also already have a mesh teething bag that I use, but it is so messy!

What can I do next?

Babies don't need teeth to eat anything! Babies don't use their teeth to eat - the front teeth is used to take bites off. Molars are used for chewing and those rarely come in before the first birthday. None of my kids had a single tooth before their first birthday (which is still well within the range of 'normal' but most people don't know that). However, by 7-8 months, all my kids were 100% feeding themselves with their fingers (they HATED to be spoon-fed) because they were independent and insisted on doing it themselves. By 7-8 months, they were just eating whatever the rest of the family was eating at a meal but it was cut into pea-sized bits (since they lacked teeth to take bites off).

Since your son is 10 months, just cut-up whatever the rest of the family is eating and put it on his plate/tray. Pretty much everything can be a finger food -- even lumpy oatmeal. It's messy, but they develop GREAT fine-motor skills early on and the messiest part only lasts for a short while until they get better. If fruit/veggies are slippery, just crush up some crackers or cereal like cheerios into 'bread crumbs' and roll them around in it.

I would GOOGLE ideas on the web... there are tons. But I would also try...

Cheerio's

I buy frozen veggies (peas, corn, carrots, lima beans, green beans (will cut). Steam one bag and put rest in fridge and take out as we need.

My kids love black beans and very good for them.

Bananas

Avocados

Egg - some camps say wait a year to give (along with melons)

Pasta - all kinds

Low Sodium Chicken Soup - give them the meat, celery, noodles, carrots. It was great for us.

Meatballs/mealoaf cut into bitesize pieces

Pancakes

French Toast

Etc. etc. Good luck!

You're lucky. My daughter is 9 months and she still doesn't have any teeth. But now she won't eat any baby food now.

Man it seems so long ago that my son was 10 months old. I had this feeder net like thing that I got from either Target or Babies r us. It was to prevent choaking. I put anything and everything in it. You could put your fruit in there instead of feeding him. There are these organic puffs you can give him that are made of veggie instead of cheese. They are like the gerbers puff but are like the cheetos puff if that makes sense. I would also make potato sticks for him they are like french fries but with real potatoes. I just put them in the oven until they were soft enough for him to chew. There is this baby book our on how to show you what types of foods you can feed your baby and how to make them. You can go to amazon or I think Target has it too I found alot of good things in there for my son. Just have fun with it because my son would eat anything at that age and now that we are giving him pizza and stuff he won't eat it, he has become picky so I think the more you can get them to try the better you are in the long run.

Hi there,
My daughter loved all fruits; watermelon, pear, cantaloup, grapes, you can buy some of them pre-cut at the store. I buy the frozen steam in the bag veggies sometimes. It makes for an easy fix and then you re-heat the veggies the next day.
I also got her veggie hotdogs in the organic section at Kroger, chicken fingers frozen (all white meat with no trans fat) that you can put in the mini oven or microwave.
If you're concerned that a fruit or veggie could choke (my dd had trouble with cantaloupe for instance) they sell some little nets with a ring to hold them and you put fruits or veggies inside and they pretty much suck it out.... I don't know if your baby could figure it out at this age.

I bought the toddler toast, she loves it, alone or with mermelade, it's big rectangles easy for little fingers.
She always loved peas, carrots, broccoli, couliflour, green beans, squash, peppers (green, red, yellow) mozarella sticks cut in little pieces.
I also gave her Boar's Head chicken (original) its in sandwich slice form and easy to grab (if urs is on meats)
Gosh, I hope I gave you some new ideas, trying to remember everything ;)I remember also having a hard time with ideas but in no time he will be eating everything. My dd is 14 months now and there is nothing she won't eat :)
