HI Moms,
Just curious ... does your "wow" or big Christmas gift for your child come from Santa -- or you, you and your husband?? Does Santa get the credit or mom and dad? :)

Thanks!

So What Happened?

I love hearing all your answers and the thoughts behind them! We bought our daughter a Wii this year for her big gift (something she didn't ask Santa for but we've all played at a friend's house and she LOVED it) along w/ some Wii games and I frankly don't want to give Santa all the credit! LOL!

I like the mom's comments that Santa brings what has been requested (letter or visit w/ Santa) ... I admit as a child I was soooo disappointed when I found out Santa wasn't real and my husband and I do feel a little bit sheepish about lying about Santa. So I think beginning this year we'll downplay the cheery guy just a bit and while still giving gifts "from" Santa, there will be less from him than we've done in previous years (she won't remember to compare from even last year) and more from mom and dad.

Santa. Because I always give them the excuse if it is a big deal that they need to ask santa. Then it is one opportunity and they know they can't just get stuff like that whenever. Plus it really makes them think about what they want. I also never get toys for my kids for christmas "from mom and dad." They are always from Santa. However growing up my dad always told us that Santa makes the presents and mom and dad pay the bill. This explains why some kids get more/less/nothing. I myself have added that santa sends me an email of the things that my kids ask for and I must approve of everything he is to bring them. But I don't know what he will bring or wont bring. ;0)

Oh. And everyone in my family who "beleives" in santa still gets a gift from him. If you do not belive then you don't get anything from him. It may be something small, but you gotta beleive.

Since my 3.5 y/o has only told Santa 1 thing he wants, and 1 thing his 1 y/o brother "wants", so Santa is getting them those gifts. Santa is also getting some other small gifts, but most gifts are from us or other family members.

Give all the credit to God? I’m sorry but my kids know the true meaning of Christmas and the small gifts come from Santa and the BIG ones from Mom and Dad. My children will then Thank God for giving his parents the ability to buy gifts for the family. They thank us & God for working so hard so that they can get toys. They thank God for the special Christmas meal, but thank Mom and Dad for cooking the delicious food.

Merry Christmas!!!

Santa! Mom and Dad give really boring stuff like shoes and pajamas. New baby brother is giving our 3 year-old a couple fun gifts, and Santa will bring one big gift (a train table) that he has been asking for.

Mom and dad! Santa should never be more important than mom and dad. Santa will bring a few small things, but the good things come from mom and dad.

I pay attention to whatever the one thing they asked santa for when we went to the mall and let that be from him. It isn't usually the Wow gift. But the stocking and the one gift is all that comes from santa. This year my son asked for a basketball and my daughter asked for an art set, so they are pretty small things, but that is what they asked him for! They will get their wow gift from mom and dad.

This year, we're letting his uncle get the "wow" gift... actually we bought it and he needed an idea, so he bought it from us! His "next biggest" gift will be from Santa- he's at the age where everything about this is magical and he'll eventually know the truth.

We are doing the same with a few other Mom's on this site . . . Santa brings the Stocking gifts ane one other gift. My husband was devestated (so he says) as a child when he learned there was no Santa so we try to down play it. My daughter is 4 1/2 and she really wants an American Girl Doll. We think she is still too young but it is hard as I don't want her to be disappointed. She also wants a Jesse Doll from Toy Story that stands about 2-ft tall. She would love it so I think that might be her "wow" toy this year.

I keep forgetting to address gifts as from anyone other than mommy and daddy. We got my 4-year-old the complete seasons of Danger Mouse (they had been checking them out from the library and loved them) so my husband suggested we sign one from Danger Mouse himself. I would personally want the credit for the "best" present, but can never predict which will be my kids' favorites since they are little. He was very excited about his socks and underwear for his birthday. I am inclined to let Santa take credit for those. =)

Santa gets credit for the stockings and a toy they have been wanting or asked for from Santa. We have talked about Santa needing to give gifts to a lot of children so they should ask for something small and easy to bring down the chimney.

well, we don't decide..we have a 2.5 and almost 4.5, if they say, "wow look what santa brought" we won't correct them. if they say, "thanks mom and dad." we will say "you're welcome"

We are doing "santa" but my oldest asked if santa was real about a month ago and I told her no but that it was fun to pretend he was. I don't know if she even remembers...

I have no jealousy issues with santa :)

Someone posted on here recently about having to explain to her stepdaughter about why we sometimes need to give gifts as charity (i.e. The Giving Tree) because Santa can't do it all, when the little girl still believed in Santa and thought he just brought everything to everyone. And it got me thinking that maybe, while my daughter is still 3, we can start with just having Santa bring a few small things, or maybe the one thing that they really want that is not necessarily huge, and the rest come from Mom and Dad (including the big stuff). Then maybe when she's older, it will be easier for her to understand that while Santa might bring some toys to all children, some families can't afford to get their kids lots of presents, and that is why it is nice of us to help out.

Santa only gets credit for the stocking and maybe one gift on Christmas morning. The rest is from us. I was not big on having Santa being a part of our Christmas tradition because I grew up without him but my husband did have Santa so we met in the middle with allowing Santat to have the stocking but we also talk about St Nick and how it is important to give to those less fortunate than us.

We do the family presents from grandparents, aunt/uncle on xmas eve, and then Santa brings the present from my husband and me during the night. They know most of their gifts are from family (and are too young to even think of wondering why daddy and I don't give them gifts), and the only thing Santa brings is one joint gift (or one each) and fill their stockings. We've decided that Santa is generous but does not go overboard!

I want him to grow up knowing that mommy and daddy work hard to get him things like that and that way he will appreciate them more (though not this year or even the next coupl yrs since he is only 16mnths lol) plus i think this might keep him from asking for things that we cant afford

I don't do Santa gifts. My kids know from the get go that Santa is not real. Nor is the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny, etc.... I guess my reasoning is not just that I want them to know and understand the true meaning of Christmas, but that in the future, I don't want it to come back and be a problem when I have lied to them about Santa, the tooth fairy, etc....and then they find out they are not real, and question if God is real because I have lied about everything else. I personally don't consider it to be the "magic" of Christmas, I consider it lying to my children......

Santa brings the wow gifts, they will know in time it was us. I try to get what they ask him for, but Santa just brings one or two things, and the rest is from us. We usually have 2 main type gifts. The one from us they open on the Solstice, along with one or two others, and than a present a day until Yule wraps up on Christmas when Santa comes.

Yes. :) Depends on the year and how emotionally invested I am in the gift. This year what kiddo wants more than anything else I'm not particularly invested in. So it comes from Santa. Last year I was so excited about his "most wanted" gift it came from me because I wouldn't have been able to curb my enthusiasm.

We also have a family tradition of each of us "sneaking" a gift into a stocking of everyone else. So 2 gifts from santa "aren't". It makes "oopsies" easier.

Santa. I would not have it any other way. I am not being mean but i dont understand when it changed. Some parents say they want the credit. Isnt that a little selfish? I am so confused. Mom and dad only give PJ's (socks and undies) and that is on Christmas Eve. Everything under the tree is from santa :)
