Yeast Infection/diaper Rash/teething/ear Infection with Antibiotic HELP!!!!!!!!!

Ok so my son has a yeast infection (been to the doctor) and are using lotramin. He aslo has an ear infection and is taking antibiotics. Teething with a growth spurt. So with all of this going on with my 1 year old he has the diaper rash from hell with the yeast and the antibiotics. My poor boy. The diaper rash got so bad over the weekend that is was bleeding. I am using cloth wipes, he's on a pro-biotic, just started a liquid vitamin, we do all the naked time that we have time for. He's on lotramin, and we've tried using butt paste which helped not at all (we usually use it and works well, but not now) Now on Aveno diaper rash stuff. The rash was getting better but now is BRIGHT red very raw and painful for my son. I'm at my wits end as to all that is going on with my son and now in my personal life. I need help and now. I am calling my doctor tomorrow, so no fear. I just needed to vent/get even more advice.
Oh and on top of it all my son is going to a day care where the girls don't get that they can use more than a pea size amount of cream on my sons bum so I know that's not helping at all. Ugh Help!

What can I do next?

Neosporin worked on the sores for us. Also, anything thick and greasy that would put a barrier between him and the poop, it gets so acidic when teething. Even something like Aquaphor, and TELL the daycare that they need to slather it on. If it is just pee, you may not even want to wipe, so that it isn't more irritated.

If you haven't started on probiotics, do, now! With the antibiotics, they are sooo important to stop the rash cycle, but good while teething too.

My daughter had a horrible rash for 3 months that we just couldnt clear up! I was given two prescriptions for a yeast infection one being Nystatin and just when I thought it might be working she would break out in sores so bad they would bleed. They gave me another stronger prescription but I had the same results, I just couldnt get it to go away and stay gone. When the Dr didnt even know what else to tell me they said to try Lotramin mixed with Aquaphor (I have always loved Aquaphor) but nothing would work. I just wanted to cry for her. Every dirty diaper and diaper change hurt her so bad. I finally had a friend bring me some cream called "Calmoseptine" that she said was the only thing that would work for her daughter. It was absolutely amazing! It worked like a charm! LOVE the stuff. It is over the counter but no one actually sells it over the counter that I could find. I consulted with Smiths pharmacy and they were able to order it in for me within one day. It comes in a huge tube for about $6 or $7. I actually just looked it up online and it also looks like Walgreens carries it on their shelf. Good luck!

Your venting was heard and understood. I have 4 and have been there.
You did the right thing getting it out here, and I hope you the best.

For helpful hints:

*I always found there were 2 types of diaper rashes, those cured by desitin and those cured by aquaphor.

*antibiotics can make a baby's stool slightly acidic which can exacerbate a diaper rash - push yogurt or probiotic drinks if he's old enough

*teething and a growth spurt throws his body chemistry out of whack so his immune system is fluctuating to compensate- try to limit apple juice, orange juice, strong digestive veggies like broccoli and asparagus and give more water than you usually would.

good job on the liquid vitamin, nakie time, and bringing the dr in.... you're a good mama

Hi MegandOllie,

I'm so sorry to hear your little man is going through this. For yeast rashes, I've always used diluted vinegar at every diaper change. You can also put luke warm water and vinegar in the bottom of the sink and let him sit in it. Since his rash is raw, you may not want to use a highly diluted vinegar to start because it may sting a little. You could also put some diluted vinegar directly in his diaper at each change to stop the yeast overgrowth.

***Vinegar is renowned for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Fill a bathtub with warm water mixed with 1 cup of vinegar. Soak in this bath solution for about 20 minutes. Dry the area thoroughly using super absorbent paper. Any vinegar will do, but the best results have been found using apple cider vinegar.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

Peace,
J.

Is lotramin an ointment for the yeast rash? My doctor has always prescribed nystatin for yeast rashes. All of the ointments you mentioned are not going to do anything for a yeast rash. Probiatics and yogurt can help prevent a yeast rash (that often results from antibiotics), but once you have it it must be treated. Nistatin has always worked like a charm for my boys.

The best combination that worked for me was first put on the lotramin, then I got triple paste, dabbed a lot on then dabbed a lot of aquaphor on. Triple paste is expensive, but is the only thing that finally would get us out of the bad rashes. Using all of them at once worked for me and I would put a lot on. I always made sure to dab not wipe. For some reason the pampers clean and go wipes always has worked best for me.

Oh my! This poor little guy. I know this has been going on for awhile (according to your posts and he is adorable!). Have you tried an Aveeno oatmeal bath? Not sure if that would make it better or worse, but you could ask when you call. Hope this is behind him soon. Hang in there, mom!

I have not heard of the vinegar bath mentioned by a previous poster, instead I do a baking soda bath. As I understood it, diarrhea can be extra acidic and the baking soda helps balance the pH back to normal. I would have them soak in warm water with a couple Tbsp baking soda a few times a day. I have also heard dabbing on a liquid antacid is supposed to help. I think that is based on the same premise of aiming to neutralize the acid that is so irritating to their precious skin.
Dealing with so many things at once can be so super stressful. I hope you find a solution for these problems soon.
