My opinion is probably not a good idea. You are in TX and its hot. Im in AZ and its hot. We don't go to any garage sales in the summer, its just too hot. And people are going to be either getting ready to have a party or go to a party so I don't think they will be thinking about garage sales. And most people that DO go to garage sales, they go to more than one and I don't think anyone else is having one that day so you won't get many people unless you advertise in the paper. I would wait to do it right after the 1st or 15th which is people's pay days. Good luck.

I do Garage Sales and Estate Sales for people and I have learned holidays are the worst..

I have a client right now that wanted the garage Sale ASAP, but I reminded her that people get paid at the end and beginning of the month.. So those are the best weekends to hold them.

I also encourage you to get other neighbors to either join you at yours or to also have Garage Sales in their yards.. that way, it is a destination.. You will have crowds.

There is a neighborhood here in my area that holds a once a year 50 Garage sale weekend. They have signs everywhere.. it is amazing all of the traffic on that weekend.

If your children are old enough let them sell lemonade and cold bottles of water.. The more activity you have the more people will want to stop. Plus it is so darn hot.. having cold drinks helps.

I'd go to a yard sale on the 4th. I wonder, tho, because the 4th is a family celebration day with picnics, trips out of town, etc. There would be those die hard yard salers who would go. I don't know if it's a good idea or not.

I had one the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. It was a bust, and it's usually pretty good.

Advertize in the Yard-Sale section of Craig's List. Almost all serious salers check there now, and since we live in a cul-de-sac neighborhood, that's the only way we get any traffic.

It may be a day that everyone has off from work, but it isn't a "yard sale day". No one will be looking for yard sales that day, so I doubt you would get anyone coming. And usually the plans that people have for that day start early as well as they may want to sleep in cause it isn't a work day. I say don't do it and plan a party instead:)

Everyone will be camping.

But I find here in Boise that Friday seems to be the most popular day for garage sales.

NOT a good day, and not just because it's a weekday. You may get some diehards around 6 - 7:00 am and that's it. People are spending the day with family and friends on the 4th.

Since this weekend is so close and you'll lose out on advertising time I would go with the weekend after the 4th. Advertise your sale for free on Craigslist, and showcase your best items with pictures.
