Yard Sale 5/16
We tried having a yard sale today but the weather did not cooperate. If the weather is better next weekend we plan on trying to have it again. What is the best newspaper to advertise the yard sale in? I noticed that people put there zip codes in the advertisements also. Is that helpful? We will be putting up about 3 or 4 signs but we think a newspaper will help. We are also going to put notes in our neighbors mailboxes letting them know so we can maybe get more families to have a yard sale also. TYIA!

I have found bright signs are more effective than advertising is. The ad costs so much anymore and not as many people take the newspaper as they use to. The signs attract a bigger group of people and you can take them up and down whenever you want. Good luck!

It's against the law to put anything in mailboxes unless you pay the postage. Put it on their front door. Also signs usually help more than advertising.

Congrats on the wedding. Signs are better than advertising. I usually have about 8 to 10 signs. But put your address on all of them even if it's small for the farther away ones. I say this because I used to put just Garage sale for the ones farther out & I have had them stolen every time. Because anyone can use them. So now I always put my address even it's its small & then larger for the close in signs. Neon poster board works best and cut it to size.

Also, you can put it on Craigs list. We got a great response from that.

I would say don't bother with advertising. Put good signs up at all major intersections and at your street. You will get plenty of traffic. Don't waste your money on an ad. I am a garage sale person and never look up the ads, just drive down major streets looking for signs.

You could also post to Craigslist. I don't know if that helps get traffic or not though, never tried it but it couldn't hurt and it's free.

Hi E.! Congratus on the upcoming wedding! How exciting!
Personally I wouldn't spend the money on a print newspaper ad. I would put it on craigslist.com. We did that and the Star Telegram and had a ton more people say they saw it on craigslist. The newspaper ads are super pricey and craigslist is free.
Good luck!
