Would You Go to Disney World or Do One of the Other Parks?

Dear Moms,
My family and I are on a road trip and Florida is one of our stops. We'd originally planned on going to Disney World but since we're from LA and have our Disneyland, a friend of mine suggested that we don't waste time doing essentially what is a replica of our own park. She suggested the Animal Park or Epcot Center. Do you guys agree? Which other park would you recommend instead? I've got an 18-month-old and almost 3 1/2 yr old and we've only got one day to do this.
Thanks and hope the upcoming new year is filled with blessings!
R. :)

Hi R.,

We live in LA too and had the same conversation when we went to Florida last January. My son is 7 though. We did not go to the Magic Kingdom since it is essentially the same as Disneyland in LA - expect for a few minor differences. If you only have one day I would go to the Animal Kingdom. It was great! Much nicer than I expected. Much nicer that San Diego Wild Animal Park. For really little kids this is the best option. Lots of animals, some nice shows for little kids (I think we saw a Finding Nemo show) and some rides and arcade games for little kids. There is also a "Safari" ride. We loved Epcot too but little kids won't get it. 1/2 of Epcot is made up of Pavillions from different countries. The other half are rides that better suit older kids and that talk about techology and give the kids hands on opportunties. My son is 7 and he loved Epcot the best but he's really into science so it was perfect for him. I think Animal Kingdom would be a great experience for you and your kids.

Hope this helps!

Hi R.,

I too would recommend still going into the Magic Kingdom. It is different than Disneyland. And keep in mind that is bigger... plan out which rides you want to do in each "land" because you will not have time to walk back!!
If you're really thinking you'd rather see something else, then do Animal Kingdom. It's like a glorified zoo. Pretty cool.
Enjoy! Say hi to Mickey for me ;)

Hi there,
Do what you want to do! If you haven't been to Disney World in a really long time, then go in FL. I have been to the one in FL and CA and I'm so glad I did. If you want to make it a part of your vacation, then by all means, go for it!
Happy New Year!
M.

I think Epcot is more for the older set than the youngers. We went to Disney World for our honeymoon (we met and got engaged at Disneyland) and there are some differences. They have the magic carpets of Aladdin (ride flying carpets!), Country Bear Jamboree (I miss this one at Disneyland!), The Hall of Presidents (they wouldn't understand), Dream along with Mickey stage show, Pooh's playful spot (outdoor play area), Tomorrowland transit authority (roll though tomorrowland presented by Alamo car rental), stitch's supersonic celebration (interactive party), carousel of progress, monsters, inc. laugh floor (interactive show). I'm reading off the brochure as we're planning a trip soon ourselves and we usually have annual passes. They'd like Animal kingdom, too with all the animals but they do have a lot of fast rides there with height requirements. I'm sure you can look up online what your kids would like because they have that planner on their website. Have fun!
