Would like Some Potty Training Ideas

My daugher, 22 months, is showing all the signs of being ready to potty train. She takes off her diaper when she goes to the bathroom in it, she asks to sit on the potty to go, even if she doesn't end up going (although she has a few times), so on and so forth. I would like to go ahead and give the potty training a go, but would like to know what worked for you!
My son is much older and I just can't remember the details of what I did when it was time for him to potty train.
Thanks! Looking forward to your suggestions.

What can I do next?

I hesitate to respond, as it was so easy for me & both my children (boy & girl)

The best advice I got was to let them go at their own pace. I had a simple little potty in each bathroom, we have an "open door" policy at our house (the kids see us using the toilet) We were very matter of fact about it.

On the advice of a friend, I took my son shopping for "big boy" underpants when he was showing serious signs. He got to choose the pants himself. They were not to be used until he was ready. We never mentioned them or used them as leverage (we knew he knew they were there waiting)

The weekend before his 3rd bday we tried the no pants thing. it was a disaster & he was feeling bad. We told him it was ok, he can wear a diaper & just tell us when he is ready. A few days later, he stated, "Mommy I want to wear underpants" He never had an accident after that!

My daughter was pulling off her diaper and peeing on the little potty consistently before she was two. We did nothing for her besides have the potty available & praise her when she did well.

They all take their own time. Sounds like yours is ready. Let him see how it is done & he will "get it" himself I am sure! Welcome to the next milestone!!

My son is doing the exact same thing right now- he is 22 mos and we are going about it exactly like you are. He has peed in the toilet several times and asks to "try potty" quite a bit. So I guess I can't really offer a method that works, I'm still working on it. I just wanted to give you encouragement and tell you not to stress it too much. I think this is going to be my whole system for right now anyways. My mom always told us that it should be easy and if it's too hard they aren't ready. And if you push too much you can make them regress and be stubborn about it. I'm hoping she's right. This is a breeze so far, I'm hoping it doesn't take much more than this. I don't really want to endure diaper boot camp or sitting in the bathroom for 5 days straight. :) Good luck, and definitely don't let anyone tell you she's too little, I bet you have a pretty easy time with this!

When my daughter was ready to be potty-trained I came upon this just by chance really but it worked so well. She took to it immediatly. What you do is put your little girl in "big girl panties". You might even want to take her to the store and let her pick them out and that might make her want to proceed even more. Get several packs of them just in case. Anyway, put them on her all throughout the day. I wouldn't start this when you're going to be running errands and I would give a few days to a week maybe more before actually going out in public with her new panties on. The panties are different in that a diaper tries to pull the liquid away from the skin so that it's less chance of irritation, whereas the panties let the liquid sit right on the skin and will be uncomfortable. Also, this is very important. Limit her drink intake. Give her something to drink with breakfast and then about 30 minutes later take her to the potty. Do the same with lunch and dinner. Do not let her carry a sippy cup around all day because then you can't really time it and it really might just defeat the process even more. Make sure that once she goes during these times that there's lots of praise. Make a big deal about it every time. Then you will want to wait a while, maybe even months to start the process for night time. You want to make sure that she has the concept down before trying to do it at night. Then you might want to use Pull-Ups just incase of accidents but tell her that every time she tells you that she needs to go and actually does something into the potty, then you will give her a treat of somekind. With my daughter, I gave her M&Ms but you can find what's right for you and your child. Although it only took one night to realize that she was going to go as much as possible to get those so give one or two max each time. After a while, you can get rid of the "treats" but it's good motivation to begin with. Take her to the potty just before bed and immediatly when she wakes up and limit drinks in the evening to probably an hour or more before her bedtime. I hope this helps with the potty training issue.

Naked from the waist down beginning with 1 hour and slowly increasing time based on successful catches. Move immediately to potty if beginning to have an accident on the floor (even mid-stream). Once successful for 4ish hours at a time (like from morning wake up to nap time), move to full days. It took about a week at that point to "wean" into undies.

I use the method of setting the timer every 40 minutes and taking them to sit on the pottty. After each time they sit on the potty, I give them a little drink of water. Setting the timer helps me remember to take them. I have 5 children and they were all potty trained around the age of 2. I say if she is showing the signs up being ready, take advantage of it. Happy Potty Training~
