Hi Mel, My advice to you is not to give up! I am 36 years old and just had my forst child. I tried actively for 5 years to get pregnant and did not no matter what i did. I talked to my Dr and after an exam, she informed me that I had a tipped uterus - thus making it harder to get pregnant. After about 5 years of trying, I gave up. Now here I am almost 10 years later with a 1 month old baby boy!

Sounds like you've tried everything, but I thought I'd suggest the Clearblue Fertility monitor. It's around $200, but it worked for me. Good luck!

I am so sorry that you are having this struggle. My husband and I also had to try for quite a while with our first, and I just wanted to share that it wasn't until I stopped doing all the temperature taking, testing and trying to "make" myself get pregnant that it finally happened for us - and I have heard a repeat of this story from MANY people. You of course could also see a specialist if you haven't already but I just wanted to encourage you that sometimes it just takes a little bit (or in my case a lot) of letting go.

After three years of trying you should see a fertility specialist, no matter what your age. It could be a simple problem easily fixed.

Have you tried charting your cycle/fertility yet? I had a friend who was having a very hard time getting pregnant, and she started charting (and de-stressing) and they were pregnant within 3 months.

See, here's the deal. The majority of women do not have a "typical" 28-day cycle. For instance, my last cycle (which just ended four days ago) was FORTY-TWO (yes, 42) days long. Sometimes it's 37, sometimes it's 39. Yes, really annoying, but I *always* know when to expect my period, and I'm very good at predicting my cycle now.

Charting involves observing the very obvious signs that our bodies give us when we are, and are not, fertile. For instance, when we are fertile, our bodies secrete mucous that is a lot like slippery egg whites.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend learning how to chart your cycles. Your body will tell you when it's fertile, and when it's not fertile, and when is the best time to have sex in the hopes of conceiving.

My husband and I have been using it very successfully for the last two and a half years.

BEST OF ALL: IT'S FREE.

Check out a book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It will teach you how to chart. It's very easy once you put the practice in. Good luck.

I definitely recommend seeing a dr about your concerns if you haven't already. It took us just over 3 years to have our beautiful little girl. We tried western medicine fertility treatments just shy of IVF. I wasn't ready to try that. I ended up going to acupuncture and had great success with that. You can find an acupuncture office that specializes in fertility Good luck! definitely see a dr. it could be as simple as needing a prescription.

Hello! You have already received some great advice to consider. This may sound really simple but I would also recommend just asking God/the universe/Greater Power (out loud!) for your baby to come to you. Ask whenever you think about it and imagine how you would feel to discover you were pregnant. If you can go to a place that is special or powerful for you, even better. We wished for our twins at a shrine to the Virgin Mary and they came just as we asked for. Sometimes you also have to just let go of the thinking about the process of how and think more about the idea of being a receptive vessel or carrier of life if that doesn't sound too wacky.

There's ways to have a baby that don't involve getting pregnant. You might start looking into adoption, surrogacy or IVF. Pregnancy is probably cheapest, but it's not your only option.

Definitely see a doctor to rule out medical issues (your husband too!). If everything looks good medically, go pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It worked for me, and all of friends who were having fertility issues. Great book!

I have been there, you are not alone. I am assuming you & your husband have seen a fertility specialist? If not, you should give that a try! We had to & now we have 3 beautiful perfect boys. OHSU has a great one. Good Luck! God Bless!

I am not an expert but I have heard that if you are too skinny or too overweight then it can make it hard to conceive. Also as some encouragement, my cousin tried for years also but they did get pregnant and their girl is now three.

So sorry to hear that your are having difficulty. You're young have lots of time, but should go see a a specialist to make sure everything is working the way it's supposed to, hormones, etc. The best fertility specialists i know of in Portland are naturopaths Dr. Ashleigh Haywood at Harmonizing Heathcare in SE. Portland ###-###-#### & then I would definately go see Dr. Sarah Wiley in NW portland, she has great success ###-###-#### & both take insurance. Good luck with it all.

Have you seen an ob/gyn? There are many medical reasons for not getting pregnant. For me it was endometriosis which is when the uterine lining migrates outside the uterus. I had surgery to remove as much endometrium as they could because I was having a lot of abdominal pain. I'd always had painful periods. That is one symptom. The doctor said that I could probably get pregnant for a year or so after the surgery but after that the endometrium would once more be filling my abdominal cavity. This was 30 years ago.

If you've seen an ob/gyn make an appointment with a fertility specialist. Many women get pregnant after taking specific hormones.

I wanted to get pregnant but I wasn't married and back then single women with babies were not so accepted; therefore I didn't seek pregnancy. My boss even "frowned" at my adopting a 7 yo child. I'm so glad society is more accepting about such things now.

Anyway, I know a little about wanting a baby and the pain that seeing others with babies creates. For me I forced myself to do other things which helped. I volunteered at OHSU Hospital and took care of toddlers. I volunteered with Metropolitan Family Services. I gave presentations to small groups and shopped for a shut in elderly woman. I had a divorced friend with 2 girls and had great times with them. I focused on being happy with what I had. Wanting a baby was still at the back of my mind but the wanting wasn't as painful.

If I'd decided to get pregnant I would've gone to a specialist. Fertility is a specialty with many ways to diagnose and treat infertility.

If that doesn't work, adoption is a viable resource. I can tell you that I love my adopted daughter ever bit as much as if I'd given birth. Going thru the pregnancies with my daughter and then seeing them born created a strong bond for me with both my daughter and her children.
A mother is a mother no matter how they get their children.

Talk to your GYN and the possibility of seeing a fertility doctor. I went thru the same thing later, but I was older. We found out the issue, addressed it and had a beautiful daughter within 1 year.

Every person/couple is different and has different reason why getting pregnant is difficult for them. It rarely is about stress. My DH and I only used BC for 1 month and have been married for 15+ years. We tried some fertility treatments earlier in our marriage, but decided to pursue adoption after about 5 years. Since then we have been blessed with 3 beautiful sons through the miracle of adoption. In the past two years we just felt that there was another baby for our family. This time we went back to the fertility doctor and after 1 1/2 years of treatments/tests/surgery, I am now 37 and pregnant for the first time.

My best advice to you is to seek out a REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGIST. Some ob/gyn's will claim that they treat fertility, but their knowledge and expertise is limited. Don't waste your time with a doctor who can only do so much for you. An RE can work you and your husband up and have a pretty good idea of a successful plan. It can still take time, but I promise, not as much as seeing an ob/gyn who doesn't really have the most thorough understanding of fertility.

Good luck to you and your future family. Don't give up. There are many ways to make a family.

I would suggest that you do see a doctor and your husband too, with this long you should be expecting already. However I would take great care in considering fertility treatments, most have some very grave consequences including many of them waste many babies' lives in order for you to have just one.

I would also contact an organization called the couple to couple league. They have lots and lots of information on how to acheive pregnancy naturally. ( and also how to not get pregnant, again naturally)

If you are taking your temp every morning, do you know if you are having short lutial phases? It is possible you ARE getting pregnant and your lutial phases are so short your body cannot sustain it, if this is the case there are things to do to lengthen them. ( mine are shorter than average, but I still have 4 children, but to have our 4th I had to do somethings to make them longer as I kept losing our babies in between to a short phase)

You might also want to cut out any and all tap water and drink nothing at all besides fully purified water. Women who drink tap water experience miscarriage and problems with infertility 2 times as often as women who do not. This is due to impurities, chlorine and also the hormones that people take and then pee into the water supply, ( not to mention the ones that cows and other animals do) unfortunately these are not removed from the municipal water supplies....this changes the lining of the uterus and even effects ovulation making pregnancy difficult for many people. (the 2 times more likely to miscarry is not counting all the countless women who miscarry with in a few days and do not even know it has happened to them.)

I also agree with some of the responses regarding prayer. Prayer is powerful and should not be discounted.

Other good foods that are helpful....avacados, prim rose oil, purified fish oil, any and all green and orange fruits and veggies, whole grains ( in limited quantities)

A great website on prenatal nutrition is www.blueribbonbaby.org. What is good while pregnant is also good to help you GET pregnant. I would also see about increasing the amount of RAW foods you are getting as well as your husband too, his health is just as important!

Raw foods have the digestive enzymes right in them, where as the enzymes have to be produced by YOU with cooked foods, the enzymes that are used for digestion then are not available for healing you, in the end not enough raw food is a major cause of much illness. I would look on line for ideas of how to make green smoothies and how to increase your raw food.

You also did not mention if you are over or under weight or if your husband is, either one can at times get in the way of pregnancy.

Before you get pregnant, there are some other things you could do to improve your health which would increase your chances of a good outcome, one remove any and all amalgem fillings from your teeth, this cannot be done safely while you are pregnant or nursing, so good to do first. Stop taking all medications and find instead homeopathic or herbal solutions instead. Of course continue your exercizing. Remove all toxic cleaners from your home and replace with more natural alternatives. Get rid of any aluminum or non stick pans, both are toxic to you and a developing baby. Stay away from any and all vaccines since they have toxic ingredients in them.

All these things make having a healthy outcome for your and your new baby more likely when you do get pregnant and also makes it more likely you do get pregnant. I have gotten pregnant each of the times I had a baby right after doing some sort of cleanse, doing so helped me feel better and be more ready, not to mention increased my fertility.

In case you are worried about running out of time, I had my first just before turning 30, after being married for 11 years. However, don't ignore the issue, do make some changes and do get some help, you want a baby now.

Wishing you much success and the blessings of being a mom. I have a sister too how really really wants a child, but is over 30 and not married, she is making arrangements to adopt....I really hope she is able to be a mom too, so maybe you can put her in your prayers, she must increase her income and also move to where she can have more family support to make the adoption work, so it is hard for her.
