Why Would You Put This on a Cartoon Network

I'm sorry, but this is completely made-up. I watch Adult Swim quite often, have for years, and own many Batman cartoons and movies. While Adult Swim does show adult themed cartoons, some of which include minor bad language or violence, they still do not allow F-bombs or sex. NEVER have Batman cartoons/movies, not even the very violent, most recent, live-action "Dark Knight", used F-bombs.

There are a lot of adult cartoons on Toon Network - just because it is a cartoon does not make it suitable for kids (i.e. Family Guy). Which is why it is not on in our house - my DD is 3 and we just stick with Nick Jr. and PBS Kids. It's up to parents to be aware of what is on TV and pay attention to the ratings and content - they can block anything that they don't think is appropriate.

Just as the lifeguards kick the children out of the pool every hour for 15 min to allow the ADULTS time to swim without being bothered by kids, so does the Cartoon Network allow adults time to watch 'cartoons' without worrying about corrupting the children.

There are even ratings on each show. M= mature.

YOU must monitor what your children watch.

This one time my 7 yr old and I were sick so we were both confined to my bed, we fell asleep watching CN and I was FLOORED when I awoke to a *nasty* cartoon on! Up until then I had NO idea that after a certain hour CN turns into 'Adult Swim'...YIKES!!!

~You absolutely need to pay attention to what is on the TV!

Adult swim is ADULT swim!

A toddler shouldn't be watching that. If a 3 year old shouldn't be watching adult cartoons. Period. If they are, that's not the fault of the network. (and isn't Adult Swim on pretty late at night?)

Why? Ratings!! Because they can!! "Cartoon" does not automatically mean "suitable for children." Anyway, they assume children are in bed during the time they run 'those' cartoons (9 pm to 6 am?). It is not their job to know your oldest was watching, it is their job to get people tuned in, and at a certain time 'those' are the cartoons that get the most viewers.

Cartoon Network has adult cartoons as well as children cartoons. And.....cartoons appropriate for a 10 yo may not be appropriate for a 3 yo. You have to monitor what your child watches even on CN.

I suspect Adult Swim means it's for adults.

Yep, Adult Swim is definitely for adults. Just like The Simpsons is a cartoon that is NOT for kids. Only Adult Swim is worse.

ADULT swim is for Adults - It's not a children's cartoon. It's an adult tv (Southpark, Family Guy, etc.) show. As far as I know, it's on very late at night between 9pm and 5 am. I can see an older kid possibly catching it, but not a little one.

Used to be where cartoon network was a channel where you could watch the " Old" type of cartoons. Kinda like a Nick at Nite version of cartoons. Sad, that the truth is, that now this channel is really not suitable for children and is more catered to adults. They have removed alot of the safer old cartoons, and replaced them with very graphic and potty mouth type of cartoons..Recommend Nick Jr, PBS,or Sprout. :)

Adult swim's target audience is 18-35 year old males. I think that is your answer.

Batman or other...Adult Swim is for adults. You are solely responsible for what your child does and does not see on the TV in your home.

Yeah, Adult swim is just that....For adults. It isn't on during the day, only late at night. Just b/c it's a cartoon, doesn't mean it's for kids.

Isn't that the whole point of "Adult Swim"? It's for adults and on late at night. Shows like South Park and Family Guy have shown us that not all cartoons are for kids. It's just one more way we parents have to be vigilant about what our kids are watching. From now on, I would stop letting your oldest watch Adult Swim.

As others have said, cartoon network is not a young kids channel. Nick Jr. is great for under 5 year olds. It's all age appropriate and no commercials. Sprout is for that age but has some commercials. PBS is great in the daytime on weekdays. My kids are young so I have not checked out all the other kids networks aimed at school age kids. It's a good idea to watch a show with your kid or in advance a few times so you know the content.

The answer to your question is that it was ADULT SWIM. The word adult should have let you know that your toddler was walking in on an adult show. Just because it was a cartoon, does not mean that it was appropriate. I am not sure how old your oldest is but SWIM is not a channel that I would want any kid to watch. It is also usually on later at night. Perhaps you should make rules that you oldest must not watch adult content when the toddler is awake.

At 3 it is also about how YOU react. Toon network does have plenty of good cartoons - but SWIM does have warnings that it is for adults.

adult swim is adult cartoons. they're generally on later at night. hence the name "adult swim". not only that, no show on any normal cable channel would ever say MF (unless it is live and then it would be bleeped). you either heard wrong or this is completely made up. sorry. not buying it!

Cartoon doesn't necessarily imply child-friendly. That's why parents should watch Adult Swim when the kids are in bed and why parents are able to block shows. When I was a kid, Mom wouldn't let me watch "The Simpsons" and I stuck to kid's cartoons until I got a bit older.

Hi D., as liberal as I've become as a parent, even I didn't let my three year olds watch Cartoon Network. And this was a decade ago when there WERE no 'adult shows'.

They were into Little Bear, Bob the Builder, Arthur, etc.

(Although since, I personally enjoy Courage The Cowardly Dog very much! Hilarious! But still no good for a 3 yo)

(To be honest, I didn't even let them watch Nickelodeon after Nick Jr was over.....ah, THOSE were the days!)

I have relaxed my standards quite a lot since, understanding whatever kids are exposed to (tv, friends, etc), what STAYS with them is what MOM does, how MOM talks, how MOM feels. I mean, if they have a warm, positive reality, the make-believe stuff will not effect them so much, you know?

I guess "adult swim" means that the shows are geared toward adults, not children --- because there is probably going to be mature language involved. You don't have to allow your oldest son or your 3-year old to watch the cartoon network or any television show that is not appropriate for children. Your rules, your house, your t.v.

Well I agree that this was not appropriate for a network that's supposed to be for kids to watch but 'Adult Swim' IS just that, for 'adults' to watch so next time you may want to change to the Disney channel when Adult Swim comes on. I think that Cartoon Network should have a different channel all together for Adult Swim that way, there's no worry about what time your kids can watch cartoons but just remember, 'Adult Swim' should've been an indication that it was not for kids. Adult swim, is just that, for adults. You never know what they are going to have on there. I used to let my son watch Family Guy with me as he was going to sleep when he was, like 2 years old and had no idea what they were talking about. However, there came a day when he reached a certain age (don't remember exactly how old, but not that old) when I said to myself, he is getting too old to be watching this, he's going to start asking questions about what they're talking about or repeating certain words. So, I quit watching it and now will only watch after he has gone to bed. Family Guy is really the only show I have ever watched on Cartoon Network, most of the others I find asinine.

It was kinda like watching a rated R movie when he was a baby, he had no idea what was going on. But as a responsible parent, there came a day when you realize, he can pick up on certain words, actions, etc. That was the day I had to start picking and choosing what was appropriate to have on when he was up and what was not.

Last night Grown Ups was on, and I sat down to watch it. He curled up beside me, he's almost 9 now. When the 4 year old ran up to the mom to nurse, I almost changed the channel. But, decided not to make a big deal of it. He's an only child and has never been around a nursing baby. Later on in the movie, he said, "Mommy, that boy is like a baby kitten and his mom is like the momma cat." I said, "You are right son" and that was all that was said about it.

Wow! I wish I knew what everyone here was talking about! My kids don't watch Cartoon Network at all so I am clueless.

After reading all the reponses I'm so curious as to what kind of shows are being played at night on a station that has the word Cartoon in it's title.

At first I thought "Adult Swim" was the name of a show but I gather it's the rating?
