Why Am I Late??

I do not want this to seem like another "could I be pregnant question?" but my cycle is always exactly 29 days. My LMP was 33 days ago and I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. I haven't been stressed or sick, what else could cause it to be this late?

Update: I'm only 29, so I really hope it's not menopause!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Finally came yesterday. Never been that late before, but I guess there's a first time for everything.

I just changed hormonally at around 29-30 years old. My period was less predicable, longer, sometimes shorter, and pms got worse. Don't worry about it. You are not perimenopausal yet, but you are probably just shifting a little bit hormonally.

I would say about twice per year, my friends (including my mampedia ones!) will have a later than normal period. This includes myself. There is no "explanation" per se, and no one is preggers. It just happens. Your body will never be on your schedule, nor will it ever be 100% consistent. Same goes for your periods.

Don't stress - and take another test in a few days. Make sure it is with your morning urine. Call the doc if you don't get a period in a month or so. But again, I wouldn't worry unless this continues to happen. PCOS and other things can cause missed periods, but you are only a few days late.

Good luck!

Don't sweat it! From time to time cycles can be off even if you haven't experienced it. I don't think you have much to worry about unless you skip a few cyclces then check with your doctor

Intense new diet or exercise program? That might throw you off a bit.

Unless early memopause runs in your family - your body could just be "off"...it does happen sometimes...

if you haven't started your period by day 40 - go to your PCPs office for a blood test to find out what's up!!

Have you been TRYING to get pregnant?
Have you had something change in your life recently? Even the smallest change can sometimes upset our body even if it's not upsetting our mind...does that make sense?

Hi S.,

Anything is possible, but most likely you are just late for some random reason, that you may never know. you could be pregnant and it was too early when you took the test. that is probably the next most likely cause barring any birth control use. And it is possible you are going through and early menopause. I had a friend who went through menopause before her mother. There was no family history of early menopause either. It just happened. Luckily she had two kids young and was okay with it. I think she was through it by the time she was 30. Anyway, I would suggest taking another test. If nothing you can either wait it out, get a blood test and /or go to your Dr to be checked. If it were me, I would make an appt. at the OB/Gyn just to be sure.

Are you on the pill? Many women on the pill will miss an occasional period.

I really hoped mine was not menopause also, but at the ripe age if 33, I am already almost done. It took a few years of not having my period and tons of blood work to determine this. Give it another month and see if you get back on track before resorting to fear of.

you could be perimenopause. i've been doing this for years. i will be almost a week late one month and then be early the next month. my mom and grandmother went thru menopause by the time the were 35, so early menopause is possible. i would LOVE to have menopause now

The only times I was late were from ovarian cyst (the ovary holds onto the egg) (sometimes cramps were involved, other times there were no symptoms) or pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my son, I happened to ovulate extremely late that cycle, which was rare because I'd always ovulated early in my cycles. So, it could just be a fluke? Good luck!

How old are you? Are you close to menopause starting, or perimenopause? That's my only other guess since you have ruled out stress, sickness, and pregnancy.
