I have been dealing with hip/low back for 9 years. I had a hip surgery 2 years ago in hopes it would fix the pain. But it didnt. I have seen numerous doctors, physical therapists etc. and nobody can figure it out or take away the pain. I was hoping I could get some suggestions on a specialists in sports management injuries or pain management in the area. I cant live like this forever as it is severly hindering my lifestyle.

I have bone spurs (they showed on x-ray) that cropped up a few months after a car crash I was in, and have had excellent luck with adjustments from Dr. Robin Ackerman (chiropractor) in Bartlett. Her massage therapist, Carrie, does WONDERS with deep massage on my hip joints as well. I can tell a huge difference if I miss an appointment.
Our insurance covers some chiro and some therapy (massage.) Not sure if this is the case with every carrier though.
If you decide to try her, please let her know that Amanda from Wheaton referred you- I think we both get a discount that way :) Even if we don't, I always like that people know I compliment them by sending referrals- it's a great form of flattery, I think :)

Hope you feel better soon; I can definitely sympathize. (I also find that avoiding corn and taking a fermented cod liver oil supplement daily helps with the arthritis symptoms.)

If you haven't tried acupuncture, or a chiropractor, I suggest both. Acupuncture can help with the pain and healing, while chiropractic can help with alignment of the spine and may release a nerve or two, muscles that are tight, etc. I would try to get a referral for your area. I have a person but she's in the city along the lakefront. Just in case, below is her info, but I believe there are some good chiro and acupuncturist's offices in your area, but I would ask for referrals from others since the dr and their experience make all the difference.

Hope you find some relief. Also, if you haven't tried Yoga, I highly recommend it too. Try a few different yoga classes, don't be afraid to call a studio or speak to an instructor at a gym about what type of class to try, it can be very beneficial and help with pain, muscle movement, joints, etc.

Have you seen a CFMT ( a licenced physcial therapist whos is acertified functional manual therapist)? We have advanced credentials in systematic evaluation and treatment to identify the source of the problem(s) addressing the mechanical, neuromuscular and motor control issues at hand. I would be glad to talk to you more about it, if you want to send me a personal e-mail.

Have you tried acupuncture? I have had really good experiences with it for all kinds of health problems. Some insurance companies will reimburse, too. I'm not in your area, but you could solicit recommendations from friends. Or you could call my acupuncturist (Kyla Boles -- urbanacupuncture.com) and ask her if she knows anyone in Naperville.

Best,
R.
