Which High Chair?

I'm in the market for a new high chair myself. I want a very simple wooden one. I sold my Peg Perego for $10 at a garage sale because I hated it so much! It was wayyy too expensive and the tray is so heavy. There are a million cracks and crevices that make cleaning a nightmare as well.

I'm sorry I don't have any actual recommendations, I just wanted to point out my hated for the supposed high rated Peg Perego. It's just not worth it.

I have the Chicco and love it. My 21 month old is still using it. I also have the Chicco travel one that attaches to the table and love that as well.

My advice is not to spend too much money on them. They're not going to be in it very long. I thought I wanted an expensive high chair with all kinds of features until I had one. It was nice, but I felt like an idiot for spending so much money on it. We moved and I didn't want to move it so I sold it. With my second child we got a $30 high chair from Burlington. It was VERy easy to clean and it reclined. My son hasn't sit in his HC since he was 15 months. It was several dollars well saved!

We have the Peg Perego and though I really do like it a lot, I wouldn't recommend spending the money on it. I'd agree with the Fisher Price...it seems to have the features of Peg Perego for a much lower price. :)

I second the Fisher Price Rainforest High Chair!

I think it depends on how much you will use it. If you are a stay-at-home mom, you might find it extremely helpful to have a high chair, since nearly every meal you feed him could be in the chair. I was at home with my son until I went back to work recently. He started sitting in the high chair at 4 months (when we started solids) and I went back to work when he was 9 months old. We did every meal except the night time bottle in the high chair, so it has gotten a lot of use.

It has a removeable tray and an attachable toy. At first I thought the whole toy thing was a ridiculous extravagance, but it has been really helpful. After feeding him his dinner, I would wheel the high chair over to the sink/prep area so I could do dishes, clean up, then prepare the adults' dinner (we eat late since the baby goes to bed at 6:45 and daddy gets home after 7:00). The little snap on toy has been a big help because there are several manipulative toys, spinners, and other things that help him develop eye-hand coordination. It also keeps him occupied and safe while I get stuff done.

There are 3 recline positions (great when baby is first learning to hold the bottle or sippy cup), 6 different height settings, a super easy snap on tray that has a removeable liner and is dishwasher safe, and the cloth isn't fabric so you can just wipe it down.

i've had the peg perego for my older little boy and now use it for my 6 month old. i love it- it's very easy to clean, it reclines, and has several height options. i also like that it "blends in" to our decor somewhat. i'm not sure the patterns they have available these days. especially if you're planning on more kids, i think it's worth the money.

My DD saw the Rainforest one when I went to Babies R Us and she just had to have it.
It adjusts height, reclines, and is easy to clean. My DD loves the toy that snaps into the tray to keep them busy while you prepare the food.
My inlaws bought the Baby Trend one another poster mentioned for us to use at their house.
I will say that it might be ok for a tiny baby, but the padding is not attached to the chair and my DD was constantly pulling it off and it was getting bunched up and was a pain.
The Peg Perego ones are hard to get the tray on and off and the tray sits very high for the little ones. My DD is 15 months and VERY tall and it is still a little high up for her.
I have use so many different ones at my friend's houses and I have to say that I still love mine the best. It kind of a tacky looking chair, but it works absolutely wonderfully. I even had a friend trade hers in for one like mine because she liked using it here so much. It's not ridiculously expensive either.

I would agree not to spend much. Have you looked into buying a used one? I did and I'm glad I did. I think it's a Graco. My mom borrowed one when we came to visit (out of state) -- it was VERY cheap and old -- but clean and also worked great. There are a lot of used ones out there that are practically like new and the features you are looking for are almost universal with newer chairs. Good luck!

I'll throw another option into the mix - Baby Trend. I was picky about patterns (I'm not a "babyish" pattern lover - give me neutral colors, etc) - so almost gave in to buying the Perego for the looks. But, I did some more research, ended up compromising for the Baby Trend Malawi (still light blue plaid, but more neutral than any others out there 2 1/2 years ago!) - and bottom line, I have been completely happy with our purchase!

This Baby Trend model reclines easily, has different height options, cleans easily, and mine even came with an extra seat cover and 2 extra tray toppers. The price then was more affordable than the others, and I just saw that Babiesrus.com still carries it for even cheaper - something like $60.

We have one of the attach-to-chair boosters (a First Years feeding seat I think). I love it - takes up nearly no space and it's easy to clean. How "secure" does it need to be? It's not a car seat, so IMHO as long as your kid can't get out of it or fall onto the floor it's fine. That's just me, though. I don't have any advice about the "real" high chairs - this was not an option for us b/c our place is too small.

The Fisher Price Rain Forest highchair is great! My dd loves it. The removeable dishwasher safe tray is great. She also loves to play with the toy on the floor. We wound up taking it off the high chair and she'll sit on the floor and play with it. The padding is vinyl and is easily removed and cleaned. It's a really sturdy and durable chair.
