My son is hitting his head when I put him in the carseat. We have the britax now and the shoulders are at the highest part and is a loittle below his shoulder. At what point does he need to have a bigger car seat??? Ans is a booster safe way to go now. I want something easy to travel with and safe for my son. thanks in advance

What can I do next?

I just spent days and days researching this issue, looking for new car seats for my 3 year old & 5 month old. The following link was a huge help to me:

www.car-seat.org

The top harness of your son's car seat should be at or slightly above his shoulders, so it sounds like he's definitely outgrown his current seat. You want him in a five point harness for as long as possible, so choose a seat that can accomodate that; many seats will allow 65-80 pounds in a harness. Most kids will outgrow a seat by height before weight, so you also want to pay attention to the height of the harness slots.

For our three year old, we looked at the Britax Frontier, Grace Nautilus and Sunshine Kids Radian seats before deciding on the SafeGuard Child Seat. http://elitecarseats.com/SafeGuard-Child-Seat.pro

Seriously, this issue consumed me for DAYS. Child safety seat technicians say that the best seat is that one that fits your child, your car, and is used correctly every time. So check 'em out & do some research & good luck making a decision! :)

I put my son in a booster about 2 months before his 4th birthday because I needed the car seat for my baby even though it was a bit earlier than reccommended.

My daughter will be 4 and we put her into an Eddie Baur high back booster seat. The Graco Nautlius(sp) was something I was looking at to put her back into a 5 point harness. It goes to 65 lbs in the harness and then highes in the booster seat. Some people have different opinions when it comes to the whole booster seat thing.

I would suggest the graco nautilus. We love ours, and know that it will last my very tall 2.5 year old for several years. I would absolutely not remove the 5 pt harness yet. Kids just dont sit up straight at that age, and will slouch and squirm around in a booster, making it completely unsafe. My almost 6 year old was just recently allowed to move to a booster seat with a back on it. Good luck ~A.~

at 3.5, there's NO WAY i'd put him in a booster. look into getting a larger 5pt harness seat. what kind of britax is he in? my 6 year old is in a regent with TONS more room to grow, and he's tall. my 3 year old is in a boulevard with a good bit of growing room as well - and he's not a short child either. i would really encourage you to seek out anything but a booster.
