Where to Take a Vacation?

We were going to go to Florida to visit family next month with my 7 1/2 month old, but we are too nervous to actually book the tickets.
My son has a REALLY hard time falling asleep and has never fallen asleep just by me holding him, I have to be up moving around. So I'm worried about flying with him.
He also has acid reflux and his medicine has to be kept cold, so I'm not sure about rules of bringing medicine on planes.
So, to make a long story short.....we are thinking of maybe vacationing close to home.
Any Ideas???

What can I do next?

I think you are doing a good job of thinking of all the factors involved when making this decision. Just because you don't go to Florida now doesn't mean you will never go. You are the one who knows what will work (or not).

You could go to St. Joseph Michigan which is about a 1 1/2 hour drive and there's a beach. You could do an indoor waterpark at Lake Geneva - Timberidge Lodge is very nice. That resort also has a spa area, so you could slip out for a massage during naptime! You could do a walking around vacation and just drive to Springfield, IL, walk around there to see stuff and use a stroller or baby carrier. One of my friends went there with her older kids and was surprised at how much stuff there was to see.

Enjoy!

JB,

We took our 7 1/2 month to Florida (Tampa). And he is not very good at Sleeping in our arms as well. He is more used to sleeping in his crib. We very rarley get him to sleep by holding him. We did not purchase a seat for him all we did was hold him. Going there he slept except for the first 5-10 minutes until we were on the ground in FL. Coming home he slept about 1/2 the flight and played with the bags of snacks that we got from the airlines. He did very well.

For medicine, they will allow you to bring what you need in a little cooler. We flew Southwest and they allow 1 larger caryon and one personal caryon like a purse or small cooler per ticketed pasenger. We got 2 checked bags per ticket, so we could do 4 checked bags. The stoller does not count as a checked bag, it is like a wheelchair. We brough the Car seat/stroller combo.

Going through security we were allowed to bring as much milk/formula as we needed. Since I am nursing I had two bottles that I froze and put them in as the "ice pack" and then a few other bottles. Definetly have a bottle for him for take off and possibly landing. Also if he takes a pacifier have them handy as well. They did not question me as to how much I was brining or anything like that.

Traveling was not as challenging as one would think it would be with the baby. We brought the front baby carrier (Bojorne is the one we had) for walking thorugh the airport as well as had is srtoller. We put him in the carrier to go through the metal detector which was easier than just holding him.

Good luck and have an enjoyable trip.

What about going to an indoor water park? You can stay in the hotel and take him swimming. There is a new one in Gurnee by Six Flags. Hope this helps!

could you refill his perscription at a pharmacy in FL? then you don't have to worry about bringing it on the plane unless he'll need a dose while in the air

What about Lake Geneva? I've never been to Galena, but I heard it's very quaint. I'm not sure what it's like this time of year. I would think it's nice. I don't know of any other places that are within a few hours drive that you could visit. I hope you find someplace fun! Maybe google vacation areas around Lake County?
