Hi. My husband and I want to plan a family vacation for this summer. We want to go somewhere with a beach. Does anyone have any suggestions? Close to home would be best, but farther away is not out of the question. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi M.. If you are looking to stay close to home b/c of finances or b/c you are travelling with little ones, then all of these suggestions are great. If you can make a 6 hour drive, we really enjoy Lake Ann in Michigan. It is more north of the state, absolutely beautiful and inexpensive to rent a home on the lake. If you can fly, then my suggestion is Cocoa Beach FLorida or Naples, FL. 2 of the best beaches I have ever been on and the Gulf side of FL is really something. Have fun!

Hi M.!
Have you checked out Lake Geneva or Lake Delavan Wisconsin? I have been going there since I can remember and now we go up there every summer. Lake Lawn Lodge on Lake Delavan is nice. There's The Abbey on Lake Geneva in Fontana and then there are a few hotels in the town of Lake Geneva. All have a beach.
Good Luck!

We go to Southwestern Michigan as well. We have a lot of family in the town of Saugatuck. It's about a 2.5 hour drive from Plainfield for us. The beach is great and there are a bunch of restaurants and shopping in town too.
My brother-in-law rents out a 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath townhouse with a lake view right in town, so you don't have to find parking since you're already there - And it has a private garage as well.
If you are interested, I can send you a link to his rental page. I don't recall how much it is but he rents it out per week. You can buy everything you need at the grocery store since you'll have a full kitchen and dining area to enjoy meals and family time.
Good luck!

You can't beat Southwestern Michigan for close to home. The towns in "harbor country" New Buffalo, Union Pier, Lakeside, are all along the lake and only about 1 1/2 hour drive. But, sometimes the weather is unpredictable in the summer. My husband and I had a really cold week there in August and after that we decided that if we were going to the beach, we were going someplace where we knew it would be hot no matter what. So, we went to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina this past year, which is an awesome family beach vacation destination. Good luck!

If you want something a little farther, you can take a drive to Door County. We went there in the summer, great place. Lots to do.. had a ferry ride to washington island, and took a tour there to a bunch of different places. Went to an ALL ROCK Beach.. very cool.
