Where to Go for Well Baby Visit W/ No Insurance

We just moved to Dunedin from Chicago, and are temporarily staying with my parents. We are currently unemployed and have no health insurance. It seems that living with my parents disqualifies us for Medicaid or Kidcare. Our 8-month old daughter is due for a well baby checkup soon, and we would like to just pay out-of-pocket. Does anyone know of a good place for this? Maybe a sliding scale?

What can I do next?

Hi L. ~

I am a Chicago native as well (been here for 11 years though). Welcome! I used to work in Dunedin and I live in the New Port Richey area. We go to North Pinellas Children's Medical Center and they are wonderful! There are several Doctors in that group (they are all great but our personal faves are Dr. Allison, Dr. Armstrong & Dr. Dwyer) and they have offices in New Port Richey, West Chase (Tampa) and in Palm Harbor. The Palm Harbor office sounds like it would be closest to you and their info is: 31860 US Highway 19 North, Palm Harbor, FL 34684 ###-###-####.

When we first started going there I was a new SAHM with no insurance and they knew that so the Dr. did not charge us for more than an office visit (even though we were not there for a well visit) and the staff is very professional and courteous. Also, once we finally did get in with Kid Care, the office retro-activated our account and sent us a refund check for what we spent that day.

Good luck!!

I am a social worker at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, Tampa. I know you are correct about Medicaid because they look at the household income but I'm not sure about Kidcare. You may be able to pay a bit each month and have your daughter covered. Also, if you are paying rent or anything to your parents they may not count the income. Anyway, if it is just a temporary situation you can take your daughter for well check/shots at the Health Department ###-###-####), Judeo christian Health Clinic ###-###-####), or Genesis Women & Children Clinic ###-###-####). Good Luck. D.

It is a resident facility and works with income based fees. Its simple just go there and fill out the app. they are very helpful and nice people there with very experienced doctors and nurses. It also covers all ages groups even women having babies. Hope this helps

I've always had insurance - however it didn't cover well visits and shots for the first year...we went to the free clinic in downtown Clearwater...it was not a lot of fun...but it was free...the shots and visits at our doctors officer were about $400 each time...

We go to the Turley Family Health center on Myrtle, located downtown Clearwater. You can pay on a sliding scale, and if you do not have the money then, they'll bill you for it. Majority of the physicians there are residents (1st thru 3rd). They are very knowledgeable. I love Dr. Hutter, he is my kids physician. He talks to them during the entire visit. If my son gets a little scrap at home, he always says, "mom call Dr. Hutter first, so he can tell us what to do."

Hi L.,
I'm not sure where in Dunedin you live but I take my kids to the absolute most awwesome doctor. I'm pretty sure he works on a sliding scale but... his office is in Tarpon Springs which is about 20 minutes from 580/main st. Dunedin.

His number is, ###-###-#### It's, Doctor Hidalgo. He is amazing and very nice.

I hope this helped.
