Where Can You Go Away for a Few Days with an Infant?

Hi Moms! My husband took off a few days to celebrate my 30th birthday and told me to go ahead and book a mini-vacation. Sounds great but our son is only 14 weeks old and we're new to Georgia. I'm looking for somewhere that is under a 4 hour drive and will be baby-friendly. Any ideas? So far it looks like we are having a "staycation." In case we do stay home, any local ideas?

What can I do next?

I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but this is the BEST age to travel with your son. They pack up easy, are easy to feed, and they stay where you put them!

We traveled to Boston when our son was 3 months old and thought it was so difficult. We had people tell us what I just told you, and we rolled our eyes. But looking back on it now, 9 years later, they were SO right. This is the best age.

Savannah and Charleston are both easy drives from Atlanta, both have lovely historic areas, and both have some access to a beach.

Have a great trip!

Congratulations on your little person :-)! I suggest a short get-a-way to the Georgia Mountains. Visit www.ticacabins.com and check out their great deals. The distance is less than two hours away from where you are. You can pick a mountain or lake view cabin. Many have hot tubs for your pleasure (while baby is sleeping). There are a few shops for light shopping and to pick up some groceries. I would recommend you take another couple to enhance the trip. Most cabins have a game room!

Good luck!

Callaway Gardens in Georgia is only 2 hours away. There is a beautiful man made beach on a lake as well as trails to walk that would be easy to do with a stroller. They have a spa as well and it is a beautiful resort.

There is a little town in Southwest Georgia that ha sa TON of history.

It is called Warm Springs Georgia. President Franklin Roosevelt would come and visit this town because of the warm springs. He uses to swim in the pools to help his polio.

There are many things you can do there. You can tour the Little White House, which is still as it was the day FDR died. You can go to the Fish Hatchery and feed the fish. You can tour the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation. and see what the people of Georgia came together for during the time of the epidemic of Polio.

It's about an hour and a half drive from Atlanta down 85 South to exit 41 I think, to Route 27 into Warm Springs. 12 miles from Warm Springs is Calaway Gardens. And there is the Roosevelt State Park too.

You can google all these on the Internet.

Hope this helps. :o)

I would suggest Savannah or Tybee Island. Both are about 3 - 4 hours to get too. You can also look at some places in the panhandle but that's probably closer to 5 - 6 hours. I think there is something to be said for relaxing at home especially if the prospect of travelling any distance with an infant stresses you out. You can always plan day outings to Helen and some of the other more interesting places in north Georgia. Happy Birthday!

Hey J.,

Just north of you up Georgia 400 is Helen Georgia. It is a very quaint little town. They have cabins and such to rent up there, on the river if you like. It is a replica of a german town. You can stroll the river, tube on the river, and just sight see. There is a lovely water fall (Ruby Falls), about a mile walk but worth it. There is also a huge park nearby, and many other things to see and do. We took our little ones and just strolled everywhere. We go every year, especially for Octoberfest

Helen and Tybee are both great suggestions.
You also could stay in a hotel downtown and be a tourist. You could go to the aquarium, world of coke, high museum, zoo, hang out in centinneal olympic park. Of course you can drive into downtown if you stay home and still do these things.
