Hi, everyone. I just recieved a new addition to my home. My 11yo niece is living with me as of today. She came with no clothes and 1 pr of flipflops that did not fit and were broken. She starts school on Monday and I am just not able to take her shopping any time soon. The school clothes closet does not open until Sept 10 and I have already tried freecycle. A friend just told me that there are places that will give you clothing but, she did not have any other info about it. Does anyone know if a place like this exists near Richardson? I am looking for sz 7 in jrs and sz 10-11 in women's shoes.

So What Happened?

Thank you for the responses. By Sunday, I was desperate and decided to check craigslist one last time. God answered my prayers and we recieved two big bags of beautiful clothes from a generous individual in Corinth. Krystian has now started school and says this is the best school year of her life. She wakes up everyday super excited to go to school. If only my 14yo felt the same way!

I do not know where you can get free clothes, but my family and I would be willing to offer her a few outfits and a pair of shoes. Is your niece going to be at a school that requires uniforms? Please respond to this message so that we can set up a time to meet. Does she have school supplies?

I do not know of any "free" places. I do know that 11 is a critical age as I am sure you are aware since you have a 14 yr old. I have a 13 yr old daughter. We just got back from shopping again because she is planning what she will wear the first week of school. It is very important to them.

I don't exactly understand if you can't take her shopping or if the shopping is out due to financial issues. Maybe she can use something of your 14 yr old's or your 14 yr old could babysit for you and you take her to the Goodwill shop, Thrift Store, garage sales if it is $$ issue. Have you tried Craigslist? There is a Plato's Closet in Plano Spring Creek/Alma that has a lot of the "in" things for teens (Abercrombie, etc). I have sold some of my daughter's things there. You can get good $50 jeans there for about $12 and good deals on tops too.

I would get a couple pairs of jeans, some tees and sneakers. She will more than likely have PE!! After school starts, she will see styles, etc that she might like. I fully expect to go shop again after the 1st or 2nd week of school.

I would offer some of my daughter's old clothes set to go to Ebay but she is a 00 in jeans and size 8 shoe. What I have is all size 10 slim-12 girls. I wear size 3-5 Jrs so I don't have anything either. Hopefully you'll have some luck quickly!

Hope some idea I had might help you.

Have you spoken to the guidance counselor at the school she will be attending? Even though the clothes closet may not open until September, the counselor should have a list of resources for you to contact.

You might try www.craigslist.com under the free section you can sometimes find clothes. There is also another similar site called www.kijiji.com.

This is the site for The Network in Richardson. They may have emergcy help in the way of school supplies. They also have a clothes closet at First Presbyterian Church.

Give them a call and find out what they can do to help. And let us know, please.
