When Did You Start to Show?

Hey mamas-

Just kinda wondering when did you start to show with your pregnancy? First or the ones after that? My hubby thinks I am wacked because I am five weeks and I swear I have a little pooch---is that even possible?!? DD is 4.5 years old, so its not like I recently gave birth. (although I did have a m/c a year ago at about 7 weeks--I didn't show at all that time) I know this question isn't really important, I was just curious. Will I be back in maternity clothes before the 1st trimester is out? Maybe I'm just bloated---but I had a flat tummy last month and not anymore =)

What can I do next?

Congrats on baby #2!! I was the opposite of every person I've ever met, hahaha! With my son (almost 7) I didn't "show" to everyone else, but I had a little belly by the time I was probably 8 weeks. With my daughter (almost 3 1/2) I didn't really get a belly until I was closer to 5 months. He was an easy pregnancy, and huge when he was born though, and she was a hard pregnancy, and 2lbs smaller than him. I think each one is different, but if you have a baby pouch already....enjoy it!!!

I was pregnant with my first (and only) 2 years ago and was trying to hide it from employees for as long as I could. I finally broke the news when I thought it was becoming obvious, at about 4 months.

With my 1st (3yr) I didn't start wearing maternity till probably almost halfway through (a little sooner than the halfway point). With my current pregnancy, I was wearing a belly band with some shorts/pants as early as like 11wks or so. I switched to maternity around 15-16wks or so (don't really remember). I'm 20.5wks now and am looking like I did when I was a few weeks farther along with my first. My doc even said everything happens sooner after the first pregnancy - show sooner, feel baby moving sooner, feel pressure sooner, etc. I'd say that's true. I even felt this one move about a month sooner than my first. Congrats BTW!

Showed around 4 mos with #1 (now 3 yrs 3 mos); showed almost RIGHT AWAY though hid it successfully from work and family till 14 weeks (with sweaters) with #2 (they were close- he is 17 mos behind #1 - 23 mos now); with #3 I am currently a little poochy at almost 11 weeks but will not be sharing with work till over 13 weeks -- again successfully hiding it with a little control top hose and looser shirts :) I also bought 2 pairs of pants 2 sizes bigger and 1 skirt with #2 so I am wearing those "regular" clothes and low rise stuff instead of breaking into my stretched out maternity gear -- hoping to stave that off till end of November ;)

BTW- I gained about 32 with both kiddos - lost it in 4 mos with #1 and it took 1.5 years with #2 (breast feeding kept the weight - 5-10 extra lbs- ON me because I was always hungry- ugh) Lost it this summer doing triathlons.

Best wishes and Congrats!

The second time your body changes into "pregnant state" much faster. Cause it's already stretched out that way once. Yes, you have a pooch almost immediately. I'm pretty sure I was in maternity clothes near the end of my first trimester. With my first it was closer to the end of the 2nd.

With my son, I didn't start showing until 7 months. I never had to wear maternity. I just got a size larger in yoga pants and shirts. I've heard you show more quickly, with each child. I gained 34 pounds, but it was it was all baby and extra amniotic fluid.

With my first... I didn't have to wear maternity pants until I was almost finished with my 2nd trimester. She's now 7.

FIVE years later, I got pg with my son (now 2) and I showed almost right away. I had to start wearing maternity within the 1st trimester.

I gained only 18lbs with my daughter and didn't lose that 18lbs until she was 4.

I gained 32lbs with my son and lost it within 4mos.

Every pg is different. Just hope you feel wonderful throughout!

Good luck!

With this pregnancy (My first) I honestly didn't start showing until I was 7 or 8 months along. I can only hope future pregnancies go like this. Lol

I think it just depends. With my first two I took forever to show. Like I have a belly picture of me at 12 weeks with my second and my tummy was still flat as ever. but I am 14 weeks pregnant with my 3rd on and I do feel that I started to show a little sooner. Like right around 5 or 6 weeks. all my pants still fit and everything (no weight gain yet) but a had a small pooch. Like you I was worried that by the time I was at the end of my first trimester I would be in maternity clothes. But that has not been the case. I still have the pooch but it hasn't really gotten any bigger. I can still wear all my pants and still don't look pregnant. So don't worry you'll be fine.

With my first I didn't start showing until I was about 5 months. I didn't really need maternity clothes except for work as everything else worked. I am now about 11 weeks pregnant and I am just starting to show a little bit.

With our first, I don't recall needing maternity clothes until maybe 3 months in. However, second child, I pretty much needed them about a week after the positive pregnancy test! It was crazy how fast I expanded the second time around. I would be dusting off the maternity clothes very quickly because sounds like you'll need them soon.

I have had only one - I didn't start showing probably until after 4th month or so. They say pregnancy after your first one you show a lot earlier because your body is already prepared for what is going to happen or stretched out per say.

At 5 weeks, it is bloating...I think. I showed with the first, or at least had to go to maternity clothes at 15 weeks. 20 for the second, but I had lost weight in between, so had more room in my normal clothes, so I'm pretty sure I showed earlier.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I usually find myself in maternity clothes around 9-10 weeks but as far as "showing"- that is, people start to realize I'm pregnant- usually around 5 months. It's possible to have a tummy because you've already missed a period and you will be bloated and poochy.

With my first (and only) pregnancy, i noticed a belly starting at 8 weeks, apparently i had started showing sooner since i looked like i was about 15 weeks. it could be bloating, thats what everyone told me but my stomach was rock hard.

First time (miscarried) I started to show a little after 6 months. Barely noticeable. Didn't even have a clue I was pregnant for 3 or 4 months. (Erratic periods are my norm).

With my son... I could "feel" my uterus (like sleeping on a racketball) after 4 or 5 weeks... and was showing enough to *have* to wear pregnancy pants at about 3 months. It turned out with my son I ended up birthing him (10lbs) and over 20 lbs of placenta... so it really looked like I was carrying quads.
