When Did You Move Kids Out of Highchair?

When did you move your kid from the highchair to the table? Was it a certain age or certain behaviors you saw from them? Also, when you did move to the table - what kind of booster seat did you use?

My son is 16 months, showing interest in sitting at the table with us. We do eat all meals together at the table and pull his highchair up to the table so he is a part of it, but still uses his highchair tray. I'm wondering about moving him to the table and feel clueless about booster seats. I'm assuming there are all types, but do they strap to the chairs? Do they strap him in still? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We got the Safety 1st booster seat. It attaches to the chair and has a belt to strap in your little guy. Love it. I think I got it at Target.
As to the when? Sounds like your little guy is ready to eat with the family if he is eating what everyone else is.

My kid has been sitting in the chair since she was like 1 1/2.. probably not normal but she hated the high chair and wanted to sit at the table with us.. she wouldn't do the booster seat either! It works for us and always amazes the hostess at restaurants when we say no to the high chair or booster.. it helps that she's pretty well behaved too..

Our 4 yr. old still sits in a high chair at McDonalds and other places out to eat. It makes him very manageable.

To be honest, we still use it, but as a booster seat at the table. She doesn't sit on a booster in the kitchen anymore. I forget when we rolled her up to the table vs putting out the tray. Our highchair adjusts so she's at the right height and with the "arms" folded back she's close enough to eat comfortably.

When we do get her to use a booster seat, we use the safety first inflatable one.

Fisher-Price makes a nice one that straps onto a chair and also has a belt to keep him in his seat. We used to take it to use at restaurants as well.

When she could sucessfully climb the chair to the dinner table (maybe at around 16-18 months). We didn't use a booster seat. She sat on her legs, and now at 2.5 she sits on her butt. Good Luck.

My son actually didn't move out of his until he was about 2, he just gradually started sitting on a regular chair about 1.5 and then was completely done by 2. At 1.5 we weren't putting the tray on his high chair anymore but were just pulling it up to the table like a booster seat. At 2 he started sitting on the bench with us and his baby sister used the high chair
