What Should I Do? - Tampa,FL

I am currently interviewing daycares for my 10 1/2 month old. The problem is they will only allow her to take 1 nap. She takes 2 long naps each day and if she doesn't get them she's a bear. They claim by 9 months old she should be taking 1 nap- is that rediculous or am I being unreasonable? It's 9:00 a.m. right now and she's already on her first nap. They want her to wait until 11:30 to sleep. I am very saddened by this. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Yes keep looking like the other responses said. My little one is 2 and can take a nap when ever she wants to at the daycare center that she is at. It's not that they don't care what she does. It's more like the do what is best for her.
Your little one is still a baby and it's hard for them. Eventually she will develope a schedule but it's sure not up to them to push it.
Mine does not usually take two naps at daycare anymore. However, there are some weekends that she does. She gets up around 6 am. She is asleep mostly everynight by 9:00.
I gets better. Stick to your gut feeling for what is best for your little one. Finding a daycare center I think is one of the hardest things that you will do for your little one.
The best of luck to you :)

I would keep searching!!! My son did not transition from two naps to one until he was 18 months old! I think 10 months is WAY too young to give up that second nap! Good Luck!

Keep looking! At her age and with any new child a daycare should work with the child towards the goal of getting them on the same routine as the others. But by no means should they have to be ready to conform on day one. You will have a better chance of finding someone who will be flexible with the routine if you choose a home daycare. I have a home daycare and I have a 9 month old who I just this week dropped her morning nap only because she was getting harder to get down so I figured she was ready. But I still put her down for a second nap in the late afternoon around 3:00 because otherwise she was falling asleep on the way home and her parents were having a hard time getting her to bed at night. In my opinion, rested babies are happy babies and that's what is important. Keep looking until you find the right daycare provider.

I have an 18 month old son and I put him in daycare at 11 months, I too had to deal with the same issue of nap time. The daycares that I looked over all assured me, that the transition of 2 naps to 1 is not as hard as it seems and if need be they would allow him to nap. Surprisingly, he did great! I think the new experience of everything going on, kept him up until nap time at 11:30.

Any good daycare should adjust to your schedule, but at the same time start the transistion to theirs. Good luck with things!
