Hi F.!! No, it doesn't mean you are automatically team mom. Whoever is will be in charge of a snack schedule. Every team member should have a game that they are responsible to bring snacks for the entire team. You can have a season end party, but it's not necessary. Sometimes all teammembers pitch in and buy the coach a little gift, again not necessary. I would have your husband ask at the next practice, who wants to be team mom? If no takers, than I'd do it and next practice, hand out a snack schedule, make sure to include everyone, even you. I hope this helps!!

Good luck!

You can designate other parents to help with snacks after the games, but maybe have little dixie cups and a large bottle of water for during the game. Parties are usually thrown at the end of the season--by you and your hubby, but it's ok to ask for parent involvement too. Don't put all the pressure on yourself. You may find a few parents that are not as eager to help as others, but you will quickley figure out who you can count on!!

FAQ- Frequently Asked Question about
"The Team Mom"
What are the responsibilities of a team mom?

You will probably be responsible for collecting money and forms for trophies, plaques, and pictures.
You may be responsible for collecting money and forms for a fundraiser.
You will probably be responsible for collecting money and buying gifts for the players and coaches at the end of the season.
You may be expected to decide on what type of team party the team will have after the season. See the notes below concerning team parties.
What will I get in return?
You will get to be part of the team. The team mom should receive a team plaque or award just like the coaches.
You will get the coaches' undying devotion. (As you should, since he is your DH)
Your child will get to see a real role model in action.
Is there anything else I will have to do?
In some cases the team mom will take up a collection of enough money to provide drinks or Popsicles after each practice. In the summer almost anything cold will work. However, many teams take turns via a rotation method on this chore.
What kind of gift is the team expected to give to the the coaches after the season?
That varies from team to team, and from league to league. However most coaches do expect something and would probably be embarrassed if nothing was given to them at a team banquet. The same would also hold true for too expensive of a gift. A sentimental gift which reminds them of the team is best. Some of the best gifts are: Plaques with pictures of the team, a ball that is autographed by the players, and a coffee mug autographed by all the team members, or a trophy and/or metal, or a pen/desk set. New products include clear acrylic coaches clip boards with team name, logo and a message engraved on it.
I found this online, I hope it helps.
I'm not sure if it is your job, but should you choose to tackle it, you have some info.

You can be the team mom--but you have to be. The team mom-in our experience-usually puts together a snack list and lets parents sign up to bring them to each game. She also plans the end of the season party and gets the coaches' gift together. She sometimes helps the coach with calling the team and uniform orders. I hope that helps.

No, that does not automatically make you the team mom. You can ask the moms who would like to volunteer and help the team mom, if you like.

Our team mom makes copies of the roster and game schedules for everybody, makes out a snack schedule (assigning snack duty to a different player each week), organizes the end of season party and takes donations for a gift for the coach to be given at the party.

My husband is my son's 'ball blast' coach this year and I am not going to be the team mom--I think that would be too much of our family on one team. Has your husband asked the league if there are any team mom volunteers?

I think every parent of a kid on the team is a "team mom" or "team dad." You might take a leadership role because of your husband's position, but you definitely shouldn't have to shoulder all the responsibility and expense alone!

As far as snacks/drinks - for my daughter's soccer team, there is a rotation schedule so that different parents are responsible for bring a healthy snack and bottled water to each week's game. Same thing for practices if they are long and hard enough to require snacks and drinks.

If this is the first time the kids have played together and if they aren't all in the same class at school, you might want to have a "get to know you" social at the beginning. Typically there is an end of season party too.

Hope that helps a little!
