Just looking for ideas.
Something maybe I haven't thought of doing.
I only have one commitment. After that the day is free.

Edit: Something fun to do "with" my child.

We're having one nice warm day in between 2 cold wet rainy days.
I hoping to get out and start weeding my garden.
Which might not exactly be 'fun' but it is for me!
I've already got a box of excess iris tubers and day lilies to share with neighbors.
My sugar snap peas have sprouted and I put up my bean trellis yesterday.

I looked at your questions (Your profile didn't tell me anything) and you seem to be a giving person like me.

One of the days I had like you describe, I cut roses out of my garden and put 4 single ones in vases, and three or four in a larger vase. I went to where my wife works and gave each of the single roses to each of my wife's co-workers and the larger vase with the three or four roses to my wife. I wrote a love poem to my wife, put it in an envelope and attached it to my wife's vase.

Another time I made blackberry tarts (blackberries in my garden were ripe) and brought some to my wife and her co-workers and her boss.

I enjoyed the "shock and awe" on the looks of the recipients faces and the good deed made me feel good.

Good luck to you and yours.

Not sure how old your child is.. but when I have a free day I take him to an assisted living center for elders... bring them carnation flowers.. it's cheap and brings smiles to a lot of faces meanwhile teaching your child about compassion. This crazy world needs us as parents to instill a somewhat lost virtue.
Hope you have a good day!

Clean closets, clean garage, go get groceries and prepare an elaborate dinner.

Okay, if that is not your idea of fun---take a lunch to the park and read, get some rays.

The zoo, childrens museum, aquarium, picnic and park. I'm not familiar with your area but those are what I would consider doing. Have fun!

Santa Monica -- so many choices -- There is a great hands on Science Museum Downtown, There is another in Pasadena Kids Place (or something like that), Huntington Gardens, Walk the Boardwalk, The Skirball has the Noah's Ark Room, The Getty Center Gardens are great fun to wonder through. Go to the library and get a Walking Tours of Los Angeles book, and take a walk around the world visiting Chinatown, Olvera Street, The Farmers Market, Little Italy, Little Ethiopia and more.

Think of yourselves as tourists in your home state and plan lots of places to go and keep having days of fun things to do.

Take snacks, maybe a picnic, a camera and a willing spirit and you will make great memories together, -- wow, have a special day!

If I had the opportunity, it would be go for a hike or out to a park in bloom. I can't believe how gorgeous spring is right now!

Or find a mellow cafe and read...
Or find a neighborhood you want to explore. Grab a coffee or favorite drink, walk around, check out everyone's gardens and houses...

Cook/prepare something splendid for dinner; put on some favorite music while you cook and have a glass of wine if you like. Open the windows and let the air in .(It's sunny here at last, so that's on my agenda this evening!)
