Weird Pregnancy Things...

Hello! I am just wondering if ANYONE has heard or gone through this and what you might have done or suggest I try...
I am 12 weeks pregnant and am losing my hair as though I am postpartum. During my first two preganancies my hair was VERY full and thick. This time I am losing it by the clumps. My scalp and face also have begun to break out like crazy. My face I understand, but I have NEVER had my scalp breakout before. I asked a hair dresser and he suggested some products that were safe but is this normal?? (I KNOW there is no "NORMAL" pregnancy).
PLEASE help!! If I continue down this road of hair loss, I am convinced I am going to be bald!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks everyone for the feeling of reassurance. The hair loss continues to be bad and have talked to my doctor about it. Now that I am in the 2nd trimester we are hoping to see a slow down, if not I will be referred. Thanks again!! I love this site just because it reminds me that I am not alone!!

I experienced small clumps of hair with both this pregnancy (currently 31 weeks) as well as with my first pregnancy. Only for a short while, then it seemed like my hair started growing and it thickened and was fine. I still of course have to clean my brush, but I beleive that is due to my length of hair and my hair texture. From both my experiences it sounds normal, although it is quite hard to decide without actually seeing the amount of hair your talking about.

I have/still having this problem! I think my problem was my diet....what is yours like, are you eating enough? Are you eating healthy? I know I was not and still could improve that and that is why I am still losing hair!! If that is not your case, then I would keep asking hair salons! One of them has to know something that could help you!

try this site that has an AWESOME prenatal vitamin. My daughter went to Dr. Olgsby he said if you can get these vitamins then take them. They are great Safe! Non constipating and also vanilla taste.

Hi R.,
I am sorry hear about your hair loss! It is unnerving, I know! Please see my post here:http://mamasource.com/request/8817944183756029953 (look for R. N.), since this information may help you. If you need more detailed information, you can email me a message via this site.

If you feel your regular doctor or OB aren't helping you, I would insist on seeing an endocronoglist, even if you don't think it is your thyroid, it could still be related to your endrocrine system.

Alternatively, you could pursue something like Chinese medicine, which could include acupunture and/or herbs. This kind of treatment can be very safe during pregnancy as it has been for thousands of years. They will consider your system as a whole and work to find your body's natural balance - since "symptoms" usually signify that things are out of balance.

Good luck!
R.

One thing I think you might want to check into is the possibility of Alopecia for your hair loss. This can come on at any time in your life. I have had it since I was 9 years old, and for me it seems to be triggered by stress. This may be your situation. Try talking a dermatologist.

Through my last two pregnancies, I lost tons of hair daily. My husband used to get asked at work if he had a dog - with long blonde hair?? lol I lost so much, it worried me a lot, but my dr. told me it was normal. Blech. Some women get more luxurious! Not me. My son is a year old now and my hair loss is minimal. I have a lot of short hairs. I started getting dry patches on my face and scalp that would bleed. I used anti dandruff shampoo once a week and got Dove for aging skin, those cleared it up. I had five kids, so the hair loss and bad skin was a surprise for me, but maybe it's my body changing with age.

has your doctor checked your thyroid levels?? I have hypothyroid, which causes my hair to fall out (and unfortunatly makes me gain weight very easily). I think (not 100% certain) that thyroid levels can fluctuate during pregnancy for people that have had no history of thyroid problems in the past... something like gestational diabetes...
