Weird Face Swelling During Period

hi moms,

has anyone ever heard of this or experienced it? For the past several months, on the first day of my period, I experienced a swollen face - just the left side - soft and swollen.

My PCP (primary care doctor) had never seen it before. Ran blood work, all came back normal. Sent me to Ob Gyn.

My Ob Gyn had never heard of it either! She says it may be triggered by something else - dental/allergies, just aggravated by menstrual hormones.

Anyone ever seen this before? If I should get a 3rd opinion, with what kind of doc, please?

TIA!

What can I do next?

D.,
My back gums swell and sometimes I have drainage down my throat during my period. I have been telling doctors for years, and they just look at me like I am crazy. Take an anti-inflammatory and it might help. Some months, for me, it is worse than others.

I would definitely have a second opinion on this one. Does not sound normal to me either. I know I had a tooth that acts up around my cycle but no face swelling or gum swelling.

Yea, get it looked into a bit more. We will be praying for you.

Hi,

I too get a similar swelling since last 4 months. Its only on my face during periods. The swelling is on different places like lips, cheek, chin etc. I have met different doctors and all of them asked me to check my food habits during and before my periods. Also some doc suggested me to get a Thyroid check done.
Could you find some solution to this? Pls help me.

Thanks.
B.

Hi ladies,

Stumbled across this as I was looking online for symptoms I've been having for the last 4 months. Each month, I am experiencing the exact same symptoms as most of you:

- A tense/stressed feeling on the left side of my body
- Light-headedness
- Extreme Dizziness
- Hives
- And, of course, facial swelling

After meeting with my PCP (who treated me for anemia and hypoglycemia), my OB (who treated me for heavy menses), an Allergist (who ran food and environmental allergy tests) and my Dentist (who pulled two wisdom teeth), it has finally occurred to me that all of these symptoms happen just prior (or during the first day) of my cycle.

Now that I know that, how do I fix this?! For those who responded with similar symptoms. Are you better? What was your diagnosis and course of treatment?

Thank you!

SM

D.,

I have a skin care, health and wellness company.

We have a natural horomone balancing cream that helps with any sort of symptom when your hormones are out of balance. Such as night sweats, cramps, hot flashes and if your face swelling has to do with a hormonal change this should help.

Please let me know if you'd like more information.

Thanks and God bless!

Hi,
I know this question was old, from 2008, but I was wondering if you ever found out why you face swelled. I'm asking because my face did this for several months and my hormones were kind of on the crazy side. At least my gyno said it was my hormones. I actually felt really good during that time and feel into a depression after. I had never been depressed before in my life. I'm in my early 50's. I was just wondering what was going on with me and thought you might have some answers.
Thanks for any info.
