I've started weaning my baby to both bottles & sippy cups. He still nurses at night and once during the day. How long will it take to dry up? Anything I can do to speed up the process? I'd like for him to be completely weaned sooner than later.
There is a old fashion way.Place raw cabbage leaves on your breast under your bra.Dont no how but it works.If not you can call your Dr and he can send you out a Rx.Which I have known some women get very sick with it.I would suggest you to take him right to the cup instead of the bottle.It will be something else you will have to battle with at the age of a year so why start.Best time to start all this is when he isnt sick.
What I did when I weaned my daughter was to eliminate one feeding a week. First the day feeding then the nighttime feeding. I gave her a bottle at night for awhile and then eventually she didn't need a night feeding at all. In my experience the slower you go the more comfortable the whole process will be for you. I never got engorged or had any pain (just slowly dried up)and the process was fairly painless for her as welll. She was a little clingy for a week or so but then was fine.
Hi E.! I used a similar method to Amy's, with no trouble for me or my DD. Any birth control pill with estrogen (eg ortho try cyclin) will dry you up immediately, too--my OB offered me a prescription for this, so I wouldn't have to go through engorgement, but I didn't need it. Good luck!
I'm not real sure how long it takes to dry up, but I've been told that Benedryl helps the drying up process. Just make sure that you've got Tylenol and Ace bandages on hand. The Tylenol for the pain of the engorgement and the Ace bandages to help combant the engorgement. Good luck!
I think it depends on whether or not you want to go through the engorgement process. When I was down to about two feedings, I weaned in about a week with no engorgement pain. Since you are down to two feedings, I don't think it would take you long to just wean and not go through engorgement. This is what I did: I would cut the afternoon feeding to 1/2 the time for the next few days, to see if you get full sooner than when he has a full feeding. Then, cut out the afternoon feeding altogether. I would then do the same with the night feeding. I thought my daughter was really attached to this feeding, but she dropped it easily. When I was weaning this feeding, I would go about 1/2 the time, make sure I kept her awake so she knew I was leaving and my husband would top her off. I did that for two or three nights. Then I just stopped and it seemed to just take care of itself. I only have one baby right now, so maybe I was just lucky.
