Vaccum Cleaner
Hi Mommies,
I was wondering if anyone out there really loves their vacuum cleaner. We're in desperate need of a new one.
It seems like every upright I've bought I ended up wanting to throw in out in a year or so. They're either too heavy or not powerful enough, etc. The one we have now isn't very old and smells horrible all over the house when we use it, regardless of how many times we change the bag, and it doesn't seem to have that great of suction. I've heard there are some new models that even have a steam clean option but I haven't been able to find out too much about them. It seems like when I was younger, we always had the canister or pull along types, and it seems like those may have been better. Anyway, just looking for feedback on what all of you guys like (or don't like)

I have a Dyson and I love it! It was well worth the money. Everyone thinks I'm crazy to spend that much, but it does its job very well. You won't be disappointed. It comes with a 5yr warranty, and it suppose to never lose suction...Hope you find one you like! Good Luck to ya!

Hi D..
I don't know... maybe you get what you pay for. I have a Dirt Devil upright bagless vac that I bought at Walmart for around $80. I got it about 6 months ago. I HATE IT. Really, it's not THAT bad, but I swear, I have to empty the canister every single time I clean or else the suction is awful. I have to dump the canister and bang out the dust filter. That creates a lot of mess for me. every time I vacuum, which is at least 3 times a week. When I had a regular bagged vacuum, I only changed the bag when it got full, like once a month or every 2 months. So, if you're going bagless, I'd recommend a higher-end model like Dyson or Oreck. If you go low-end, a bagged vac might be better.

We love our Dyson! It's just like the commercial says, it never loses suction. The only negative about our particular model is that I have long hair and every once in a while, my husband or I have to get a pair of scissors and cut the hair out from around the brush. Some other models might not have that problem, but I know ours does.

We have a dyson that a friend of ours gave us since he owed us money. It worked great for a year but is now making a high pitch noise. No big deal since I'd just take it in and get it fixed. Not. You have to go to a shop that specializes in dyson since their parts are foreign. Your typical vacuum shop can't repair those. I think there is one in the DFW area. I tried looking up troubleshooting online to see if I could figure it out myself but too complicated. Even though it is a 5 year guarantee, do your research and call to see where you would have to take it if it did need service.

We invested in a Kirby a few years ago, and it is awesome! I couldn't believe how much it sucked up versus the Hoover I had before it. They are expensive, but they offer intrest free financing. If you have the resources, I would definitly recommend it. They last forever, and work very well.

I love my Oreck. It's light weight and so worth the price. We've had it for about 8 years now and have only had it serviced once - which I believe was free!

I second the vote for a Dyson. A few years ago my husband got a large bonus from his employer. I had plans for it, but he insisted on buying a Dyson, which was $500. I thought he was crazy. Well, I love it. And, by the way, for the first 2 years we had it, HE was the one who vacuumed. Now that I'm a SAHM, it's my job, and I would be devastated if we lost our Dyson. My sister and my mom both have one now, too, and the models have only gotten better.
We have replaced 2 parts, which we ordered online and replaced ourselves. The parts were less than $50.
Peace,
M.

I have an Oreck and love it. They do free check ups on them and the service is great and the store on Grapevine Hwy. in the Mayfair Village is wonderful. They usually have something on sale.
