Vaccum Cleaner

Hi Mommies,

I was wondering if anyone out there really loves their vacuum cleaner. We're in desperate need of a new one.

It seems like every upright I've bought I ended up wanting to throw in out in a year or so. They're either too heavy or not powerful enough, etc. The one we have now isn't very old and smells horrible all over the house when we use it, regardless of how many times we change the bag, and it doesn't seem to have that great of suction. I've heard there are some new models that even have a steam clean option but I haven't been able to find out too much about them. It seems like when I was younger, we always had the canister or pull along types, and it seems like those may have been better. Anyway, just looking for feedback on what all of you guys like (or don't like)

What can I do next?

I have a Dyson and I love it! It was well worth the money. Everyone thinks I'm crazy to spend that much, but it does its job very well. You won't be disappointed. It comes with a 5yr warranty, and it suppose to never lose suction...Hope you find one you like! Good Luck to ya!

Hi D..
I don't know... maybe you get what you pay for. I have a Dirt Devil upright bagless vac that I bought at Walmart for around $80. I got it about 6 months ago. I HATE IT. Really, it's not THAT bad, but I swear, I have to empty the canister every single time I clean or else the suction is awful. I have to dump the canister and bang out the dust filter. That creates a lot of mess for me. every time I vacuum, which is at least 3 times a week. When I had a regular bagged vacuum, I only changed the bag when it got full, like once a month or every 2 months. So, if you're going bagless, I'd recommend a higher-end model like Dyson or Oreck. If you go low-end, a bagged vac might be better.

I just bought the new year high end model of Oreck and LOVE it.

We did pay a nice price but it is already worth it. I use it daily, SO lightweight and easy to use. Also, it has a 10 yr warranty and I can take it in every year for a check and clean.

My mom has a Dyson and HATES it because it is so heavy.

I got mine at the Plano Oreck store

I clean houses to earn my living and I use many, many vaccuums (I use the homeowners vaccuum and mop). I DO NOT like the dyson and here's why. The actual vaccuum head is so big, it doesn't even come close to going under any type of furniture. Also when you put it in the upright position, it makes this super loud suction noise out of the top of the handle.
Here is my favorite: the Bissel for pets.(silver in color). It has a fabulous attachment that is great for furniture and also it has a flat head, lays flat without having to push the lever again and goes under a lot things. I can easily do under beds with virtually no effort. The canister is easy to clean as well. I highly recommend this vaccuum and will purchase one for myself when my current super heavy Kenmore dies. BTW, I hate canister vaccuums but will sacrifice for the quality of the machine itself.

iRobot Roomba is great. If you go online, they will show you where you can get the best price. Try to find one with a lifetime warranty. Good luck. The best thing about the Roombas is you can do several things at once and husbands get a kick out of them!

I love my purple Dyson! I've had it for two years and still working great for me. I love the fact that it is bag less. Also, has very powerful suction. Gets an A+ from me!

Hey D.! I actually LOVE my vacuum..weird I know but it is a brand called Simplicity and has AMAZING suction and all kinds of really cool attachments. It has a REALLY long cord so you can get a long way without having to stop and plug it back in somewhere. I had never heard of this brand but went to this place called Arlington Vacuum Co. and the man that owns it has been in the business for 30 years and he shows you in store demonstrations. This vacuum is a bag vacuum and I thought I never wanted one of those again but he explained that the bagless ones the dirt and whatnot eventually does get back in the air...he can also tell you what vacuums to absolutley not buy. He has different brands as well but he really really likes this brand. It is actually is made by the same company that does clothing patterns. Oh and the belt has a lifetime warranty on it as well. I hope this helps you and good luck finding one you love!

D.,

I have mostly hardwoods and tile, and I LOVE my Miele Luna. It was pricy, but worth it. It is listed on several allergy websites as the best hypoallergenic vacuum. It is a canister, but I really wanted to to be able to get under my furniture easily. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, so there is lots of hair to clean up.

My mother has carpet and tile and she LOVES her Oreck. It is really light weight, and it works great. She said it also cleans up dog hair very well.

GOOD LUCK!

I have a Dirt Devil upright and have liked it. I add essential oil (you can get it at Whole Foods/ Central Market/etc) to the filter (it's bagless) and it makes our house smell wonderful!

Hi D.,

Buy a Dyson........ expensive but so worth it! I clean houses for a living and have used just about every brand/kind imaginable and none can even come close to the Dyson. It has superior suction, on board attachments (I have the DC 14) and extendable hose for high or hard to reach areas.

If it's too expensive for your budget, try an Oreck...... not as good but better than the rest. That's my 2 cents!! Hope it helps.

I also vote on the Dyson! We have one and I love it! There's no bag to replace, just empty the canister and that's it! It has great suction and very easy to clean. It's truly a great quality vacuum cleaner! It is kind of expensive but well worth the money. You won't have to replace it every year like the other ones you bought. Good luck!

I have an Oreck and love it. They do free check ups on them and the service is great and the store on Grapevine Hwy. in the Mayfair Village is wonderful. They usually have something on sale.

I second the vote for a Dyson. A few years ago my husband got a large bonus from his employer. I had plans for it, but he insisted on buying a Dyson, which was $500. I thought he was crazy. Well, I love it. And, by the way, for the first 2 years we had it, HE was the one who vacuumed. Now that I'm a SAHM, it's my job, and I would be devastated if we lost our Dyson. My sister and my mom both have one now, too, and the models have only gotten better.
We have replaced 2 parts, which we ordered online and replaced ourselves. The parts were less than $50.

Peace,
M.

I love my Oreck. It's light weight and so worth the price. We've had it for about 8 years now and have only had it serviced once - which I believe was free!

We invested in a Kirby a few years ago, and it is awesome! I couldn't believe how much it sucked up versus the Hoover I had before it. They are expensive, but they offer intrest free financing. If you have the resources, I would definitly recommend it. They last forever, and work very well.

We have a dyson that a friend of ours gave us since he owed us money. It worked great for a year but is now making a high pitch noise. No big deal since I'd just take it in and get it fixed. Not. You have to go to a shop that specializes in dyson since their parts are foreign. Your typical vacuum shop can't repair those. I think there is one in the DFW area. I tried looking up troubleshooting online to see if I could figure it out myself but too complicated. Even though it is a 5 year guarantee, do your research and call to see where you would have to take it if it did need service.

We love our Dyson! It's just like the commercial says, it never loses suction. The only negative about our particular model is that I have long hair and every once in a while, my husband or I have to get a pair of scissors and cut the hair out from around the brush. Some other models might not have that problem, but I know ours does.
