Looking for suggestions for good vacation destinations with an almost 3 year old boy. With the heat of summer and not being a huge fan of the beach we are looking for destinations that we don't have to be at the beach a good portion of the vacation. We are willing to fly... any good destination ideas?
Thanks!!

Oregon. Rent a car and do the scenic trip on the east coast. First stop at the gorge area. There is a little train ride you can take up a little mountain. You can get a little meal at the top. The 3 year old will absolutely love the train ride. The cruise the east coast. We went in June and the cherry trees were in full ripe and were selling on the side of the road. Visited Timberlake lodge. There was still snow on the ground in June. Probably out of luck in July but who knows. Then we went to Mt. Bachelor and the back portion of the circle road had little cabins you can rent. My daughter was about 4 then and absolutely loved it. She got to run around in the camp area with other kids. Then to Crater Lake. Amazing view. Then we hit the desert part of Oregon and then dipped down into California to see the RedWoods. My kid loved the fact that the trees were huge and so much more bigger than us. There was also a cold stream that we let her play in.

Hershey and Lancaster County PA. Hershey Park (amusement park), Chocolate World (Hershey factory tour), and Strasburg Railroad - there is even a motel in Strasburg which has renovated train cars as rooms. He would love this trip.

Other places, some I have been to and some are on my list:

Wisp and Deep Creek Lake Resort in MD

Sesame Place (PA)

Asheville NC - great state parks and historic mansion with winery.

Arcadia National Park in ME near Bar Harbor. Also Portland ME. - nice and cool in the summer and you can drive through much of New England. unique beaches, whale watching, and mountain activities

Vermont - factory tours like Ben and Jerry's, Cabot Cheese, LL Bean
