Hi Mommies,
I have an almost 6 month old little girl (my second daughter) and was wondering if I was on the right track with her napping schedule and her diet. She now takes two naps per day, one at 9:30 - 11:30 and one from 2:00 - 4:00 approx. She eats about 4 times per day 8oz and has some solids at her 7am, 11:30am and 4:00 feedings with just 8oz breastmilk at 7:00 before bed at 8:00. Does this sound about normal? Just checking. It is amazing how much you forget from the first one!
Thanks!

Sounds exactly right to me based on what I have been advised...and the most important part is that it is working for your daughter and you!

Hi D., youre telling me i had my babies in the 80's, but I have daycare kids. it sounds to me that your little girl is on a health schedule, that schedule, will change a few times during the first year, but as long as she is sleeping through the night and is healthy and happy, I say it's good, normal will vary from mom to mom, but it sounds like your baby is healthy and happy, and it sounds like you are happy, just a little concrned. Ive been a mom for 24 yeras and it all sounds good to me. J.

Funny... I asked almost this exact same question last week. I do think it sounds very normal. My baby girl is 7 months and does 2 big naps a day and maybe another short one depending on the day. She is eating solids 2x a day and LOVES to eat! She is still on 6 oz bottles 5x a day. Sounds like your baby is healthy and happy. Enjoy!

Hi D.,

I've just wanted to thank you for your post. I have an almost 4 year-old and a 6 month-old daughter + a 2 year-old son between them. I was just wondering how I should start solids. You see it wasn't too long ago for me, and still I do not remember what I have done with my other 2. So thank you, I guess I will just follow what you do. It looks like you got it perfectly right. :)

Thanks again!

By 6 months old, both my kids were on two naps and four feedings of breastmilk. At 6 months I started adding in solids 1-2 times per day and increased from there.

So it all looks normal to me!!

Hi D.-
My daughter is 7 months old and catnaps. I stopped breast feeding about a month ago. My daughter gets 4 bottles each day. She generally takes 6 1/2-8 during each feeding. We started solids with her just before she was 6 months old. I give her this once a day, and have just finished going through all the fruits and vegetables, as well as rice cereal.
Anyway, I hope this helps.
H.

PS- I also have a 4 year old, and it amazing how quickly you forget everything that involves a new baby.
Also, have you heard about the new indoor playland that we have on Foothill across from Osh? My e-mail said you also live in La Crescenta, so I thought I would throw that out there as well.

Sounds almost exactly like my babies schedules at that age - they just went to bed a little earlier (at 7:00) up at 7 am and breakfast about 1/2 hour later.

Lets be honest, D.. Your baby girl is far from typical! She is extraordinary, exceptional, and quite possibly the best 6 month old in the whole wide world. Why do you care what the "typical" 6 month olds are doing? :0) I am the mom of four. and believe me, there is no such thing as typical, nor should there be. Each child is unique, an individual, and that needs to be respected and appreciated. When it comes to naps and feeding there is no "norm" except by those parents who refuse to acknowledge individuality. If your daughter is healthy and happy, thriving and growing, that's what is important.

It sounds like she's doing wonderfully! My daughter at that age and still does take at least 3 naps. I know a few 10 month olds that still won't do solids very well. At our 9 month old just went in for her wel-baby visit and according to our doctor, you want to offer food first then milk after to get them used to a 3 meal/day & 2 - 8oz servings of milk/day once she's a year. From what I read, milk servings vary so I'd check with your ped. as to how much exactly she needs to get.
