Two Year Old Boy Isn't Talking Yet-should I Be Concerned?

My son just turned two and he isn't really speaking yet. He blabs all day long but I can't make any of it out. He does say No very clearly and at appropriate times. He also immitates animal and vehicle noises well. I just don't understand why he can say Moo but not Ball or even Mama/dada. My mom thinks its no big deal but my mother-in-law has me convinced it is a huge problem. Should I be concerned or just relax about it and give him a break?

What can I do next?

I would definitely get him evaluated. He could be developmentally delayed or even autistic and the sooner you start treatment the better. Also, if it is nothing, you will have peace of mind.

I would have him checked at the doctors because if there is a delay the sooner he gets treatment the better.

I had the same concerns for my now 7yr old. He would do the same thing, among other behaviors though, lack of eye contact, repetitive behavior... just little things. Through much testing we found out that he is autistic, and started early intervntion , which is very important.

Talk with your doctor, if there are any concerns with your childs development always persue it and get answers!!! It may be that he just has a speech development delay and speech therapy can take care of that... just persue getting answeres

C.,our first son did not speak till he was 2 1/2.At the 18 months check up our doc asked me how many sentences could he say,i said I could count the words he says on 1 hand. He did say mama and dada though way before 2.Then one day whe he was 2 1/2 it just poured . Now at 3 1/2 he talks nonstop. Our second son is 16 months and only says mama (so i will have to hear it again at his 18 months check up). What does your doc say???KIds start talking at different ages, but i do not think it would hurt to get him checked.
