I have been having contractions since 6pm last night and they went from 45 mins to 15 mins aprt then stopped when i laid down. I got up again and got moving. They still arent steady. I am gonna try walking because i have to have a c-section and have been told that i need to wait till they are 5-7 minutes apart to go in. Has anyone tried anything other then walking for gaining a labor pattern? My orgional date for my section was dec 4th. And i was having an amniocentisi done nov 29th. I am oked if i get into full active labor to have her so any ideas would be lovely she is already round 7lbs as of last ultrasound/biophysical profile.
Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So far im still having contractions. These do not feel like braxton hicks. They are pretty intense. But not regular at all. they get into a pattern then stop then start then stop. So far dr thinks that I might have her by Thanksgiving if this keeps up. I am trying to keep reting since that stops the contractions but as soon as i stand up they start again right away. I was told i can work as long as im sitting down and not photographing. But my Dm would rather me stay home then chance going into full active labor and having to drive 30 mins since im a c-section delivery. I am just biding my time for the moment. I appreciate all the advise. The hard part is that this was very similar with my son. I had REAL contractions for 3 weeks but they kept stopping them because my cervix wouldnt change. They ended up giving me cervidil and that finally opened me but that still didnt help me with a natural birth so either way this seems to be exactly the same thing happening again. Hopefully i can have her soon and safe. She is large enough and they believe that her lungs are developed by what they have seen in the ultrasounds they will know for sure NEXT wednesday and if so she will be out before dec 1st. I guess i can just hold on unless she is very persistant. LOL

T.,

Are you sure the contractions you are having are "real" ones or could they possibly be Braxton Hicks?? I'm not sure because both times I was pregnant I never had Braxton Hicks??? The advice I was given when I was overdue with my first child was to be as active as possible and up on your feet. Also, any sort of activity that gets your adrenaline going works too---just what I was told. I didn't try anything herbal with either one of my pregnancies, but my daughter was born 13 days early. Hope this helps!

Hello T., My suggestion to you is not to do anything to stimulate labor. You are still fairly early from your due date. I am an OB nurse and it is absolutely true that the baby will come when it is ready. I am also a mother so I know what those last few weeks feel like but, I am here to tell you it is remarkable how much better a 39-40 week baby does compared to any thing less. After you have gotten a little closer to your due date then you could start trying all these suggestions but I would NOT do anything now. You are too early. It is horrible to have a c-section and have a baby in the special care nursery, I know because I did. I delivered at 35 weeks not by choice obviously, because I was in active labor and it couldnt be stopped. My son was in NICU for a while after delivery! Just be careful what you do. I don't want to see your little one in special care if it could be prevented! I wish you the best of luck!

Well i have 8 children and one of my children was very stubborn on coming into this world and my doctor suggested taking a long walk come home take a hot bubble bath and go to bed have hubby message me exspeacialy my feet and do nipple messages he said when the nipple is messaged it releases something that causes labor sorry cant remeber the name. and then for me and my hubby to have sex with me on my side and it works he was born less than 48 hours later. so you might try it

I heard about this and tried it when I was a week late giving birth to my duaghter. I don't know if it works really, but there is a tea that you can find at health food or natural food stores (I got it at Wild Oats)that is a "female system" regulator, and it is said to increase the regularity of contractions. I went into labor the day after I drank a million cups of it, so it could have been the tea or it could have been just plain old coincidence. If you're just desperate, though....I'd give it a shot!

Hey T.,

I spent the last month of my pregnancy driving myself crazy trying to put myself into labor. In the end I went 41 weeks, was induced, and ended up having a c-section. When it was all done I realized how much stress I put myself through and wished I would have just chilled out. :-) When it comes down to it, your baby won't come out until she is ready.

Anyway, here are all the suggestions other people offered me for starting labor. They didn't work for me, but maybe they will for you. Good luck!

- walking
- sex (just what you want to do when you are 9 months pregnant!)
- drinking castor oil mixed with orange juice (very gross, will either make you go into labor or just poop)
- eat spicey food
- drinking pregnancy tea, this is at natural food stores like Whole Foods or Wild Oats
- walking up/down stairs
- professional massage

Well..... if it's comfortable for you try having sex. OR have your husband or you stimulate your nipples.

these worked for me with my second pregnancy.
good luck

Actually it sounds very difficult but I went for a three mile jog with my husband... I never really done that before and it put me into labor. The more you sit and lay around the more they will be inconsistant. Best thing, keep moving, dancing, jogging in circles. Go go go until you can't no more.

it sounds to me like you are just having having false labor or strong braxton hicks contractions. i would just relax and let things progress on it's own.
