Trying for #2 - Melrose, MA

I was pregnant on the first try with my 2 year old, so I am wondering what your tips are for getting pregnant since it's been a few months with no success (I am not overly worried just curious). I have heard it works to have sex on day 10, 12, 14, 16 but that feels like it would take the fun out of it. Also, did you wait 48 hours between sex or go for daily when ovulating? Any tips are welcomed. Thanks!

What can I do next?

For our second I used an ovulation predictor and had sex only when it said I was ovulating - and we were successful the 1st time out of the box. No sex anywhere near the time before ovulation to keep those swimmers strong. We used the tests from early-pregnancy-tests.com - you can get a lot for a small price and even get kits that have ovulation strips and pregnancy strips in the same kit - saves time and money.

Good Luck!

I would echo reading the book "taking charge of your fertility."

Everyone has different length cycles so the specific days for ovulation-sex are different for everyone. I had a similar situation to you and found that charting my temperature really helped. Same concept as the ovulation predictors but less money! The other benefit is that if your temperature shows any unusual patterns, it can help track down any issues (for example, low-thyroid often results in low temperatures - which is an issue is general, and can also be an issue in fertility).

The book also has info about suggested approaches to get pregnant (e.g. days to wait, etc) as well as ways to approach birth control.

Hi J.! I hear you about taking the fun out of it having sex on all those days - getting-pregnant sex is not always carefree and fun! What I did was chart my temperature to see exactly when I was ovulating, while also looking for ovulation signs like cervical position and mucus (I know, lovely). With both my pregnancies, my most fertile day was between days 14-16 so we had sex all three of those days, or at least days 12, 14, and 16 at minimum. Once my temperature shifted higher AND the ovulation signs were gone, I knew that month's window had closed and we had done all we could. If you want to learn more about this natural family planning type of method, I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. At the very least, you learn a TON about your body in general, no matter where you are in life. Good luck with trying and do have as much fun with it as you can. It can be tough when you are thinking about an outcome, so try to relax and it will happen. :)

Get an ovulation kit. I was pregnant on my first try with my oldest. Then it took 6 months to get pregnant with my middle and 7 with my youngest. I ended up getting an ovulation test kit to get my youngest though. That worked on the first try. It was one of those things where you pee on the stick like a pregnancy test and it tells you when your best chances to conceive are. I was on the pill for a few years before I get pregnant with my second and third so that's probably why it took longer for me.

Buy an ovulation kit (all you need is the store brand one). Not everyone ovulates on day 14. I was very surprised to find out that I ovulated on day 20. This is a good place to start because then you will know the most important detail :) Good luck!!

I bought an ovulation preditor it looks just like a home pregnancy kit and it worked for baby 2. I got up one morning, used it, and decided to give it a try. Two weeks later I took a home pregnancy test and 9 monthslater I had my girl.
It didn't really take the fun out because I didn't tell my husband about it.
We had been trying for awhile to get pregnant again and kind of "snuck" around our 2 year olds sleeping times and my sister(she was living with us for awhile and we had to "sneak" around when she wasn't home.

I did what you mentioned and it worked twice for both my kids the first month. Started on day 10 and ended on day 20, every other day, sure it takes the fun out but it worked! Also, I did lay in bed with my hips elevated for a good 20 minutes afterwards :)

Good Luck!
