My husband and i just got married in october and we are excited about adding another child to our family. We are trying to get pregnant and i was wondering if any of you moms can tell me of any good signs or symptoms of ovulation and early pregnancy. I was told that between days 10-15 are the most fertile. Any info you could give me or advice would be great thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thankyou ladies so much for all the advice, i just found out that i am pregnant. I tracked the days that i could possibly be fertile and waited for the cervical mucus to make its appearance and well, we must have done something right. Thankyou again ladies!

I agree with the book reccomendation. As for thr ovulation strips, they don't work for everyone. They never worked for me. What helped me was charting my basal body temperature on fertilityfriend.com. Check out the site, it pretty much fills you in on everything. Good Luck!

It depends on how long your cycle is. You ovulate 14 days prior to your period- so if you have a 28 day cycle you ovulate on day 14 but if you have a 32 day cycle you ovulate on day 18. You can generally get pregnant from intercourse a couple of days prior to ovulation and about 24 hours after ovulation. I recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"

The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, MPH is great! I used the charts provided in the book, took my temperature in the morning and looked for the ovulation indicators...with my 2 children I was pregnant the 1st and 2nd month of trying to conceive.

When we were trying to get pregnant, I tracked my ovulation by checking my cervical mucus. When it was kind of like a blob-like, egg white substance I knew I was ovulating that day or the next day. And then I just came to know what day it would most likely fall on the next month (just like you track your period) and then we would have sex every other day leading up to that day and for about 5 days after that. And then it just got to the point where we were having sex every other day except for when I had my period just to get in a routine. My mom also told me that when she was trying to get pregnant, she would lay on her back with her legs in the air after sex for 20-30 minutes to try to trick gravity. And after having sex every other day and putting my legs up, I was pregnant 2 months later, when I had been trying for 5 months before that with no luck. Hope this helps!

If you really want to be certain on the exact day you are ovulating you can go to the store and buy a few ovulation test kits. They work like a pregnancy test only they tell you when you are ovulating and will become pregnant if you make love to your husband that day. Congradulations on your new marriage and good luck with trying to have a new addition added to the family!

Just wanted to mention that not everyone ovulates 14 days before they start their period. The luteal phase (the time from ovulation to menstruation) is typically consistent even in women with an irregular cycle, but for some women it can be 12 or 13 days long, instead of 14. If it's shorter than that, then you may have a luteal phase defect and that can decrease your chances of conceiving.
The recommendations of charting, ovulation test strips, and paying attention to cervical mucus are all great ways to figure out when you're ovulating.
I get my test strips from easy-pregnancy-tests.com They're really cheap there.
Also, there is a great website for support while trying to conceive.
It is www.twoweekwait.com

Honestly, the easiest way to get pregnant is to use ovulation strips. You can get them from a drug store or go online to purchase them where they are MUCH less expensive. I used them both times I got pregnant and it worked the first time with each! Not everyone is on a 28 day cycle, so you can't count on being fertile between days 10-15. The strips really help narrow it down for you.

I would say the general rule is 11-14 days for most women, but it does vary since everyone ovulates differently. I would use an online calendar and plug in your past menstrual dates to guage when you might ovulate. There are many free online calendars you can use to do this, just google it. I would also use the strips if you think you don't have any issues going on with infertility. They are easy and I have had great luck with them. You can get a 30 day supply from target for about 30 bucks. I wouldn't mess with all the other stuff unless you are having trouble otherwise. Keep it simple if you can! I think people fuss so much with charting, and temperature taking, and mucus checking when all you really have to do is keep track of when you ovulate every month by peeing on a stick, its so much easier!!!!! The other methods are great if you find no luck with the stick or your cycles are really irregular. I just found them to be terribly tedious and I have been trying to conceive for over a year. I finally used the sticks and I am now 9 weeks pregnant. You will know when you are pregnant by taking a test!! Keep some handy and when you miss your period is a good time to test. I tried the ept and tested 5 days early like the box says and I got a negative. I waited until one day passed my period due date and it was positive, you can get a three pack at any drug store. good luck!
