Train-themed Diner for Son's Birthday

I have heard about "train" diners where food is delivered on little choo-choo trains, etc... My son is turning 3 yrs. old in May, and my husband and I want to take him to one to celebrate. Which of these restaurants do you like best? We live in Lisle and don't want to drive more than 10 miles to get there.

What can I do next?

We live in Lisle and depending on where you are, I would say the one on 75th St. & Lemont is closer and easier to get to. Parking is a lot easier at the 75th & Lemont location and its called All Aboard Diner. Its next to the Toys-R-Us just east of 355. I like it better because the track is ON the counter and its a lot harder for the kids to reach out and grab the trains. If you sit at the counter the train "delivers" your food right to you. They also have train-related music playing and big screen TVs on opposite ends of the restaurant usually playing Thomas the Tank Engine videos. They have a party room if you were interested in doing anything more than a family celebration.

2toots also has a location in Glen Ellyn right on the tracks. We've been to them all as my son was a huge Thomas fan. The nice thing about 2toots is the trains come by and the kids get really excited.

The one on 75th & Lemont is larger and bring quarters as they have games and all the kids want to play them.

Food is equally ok at both places.

Some extra train info:
We went to the 2toots in DG and then hopped on a train to downtown. Got off and walked through the train station and came back home. Or you can get off at the Brookfield Zoo stop (Hollywood), did that too! Or if you go to Glen Ellyn you could hop on and go to Geneva (I think) and come back.

Kids under 6 ride free! My son loves to ride the train (just fyi if you go downtown, ride an express back...there are lots of stops).

Sadly my son is now 6 and on to star wars...but he still loves to ride the train!

PS There is a Thomas train in Union, IL usually in August. DO NOT go with a 3 year old, I speak from experience! wait another year and if he is still into trains then go. The tickets are expensive ($20 each), but it is the train mecca! If he is not into Thomas and just trains in general, then take him there anytime, I think its only $6. They have a website and it is about an hours drive northwest by Huntley, IL You get to see all kinds of trains, don't forget the steam train barn (they will be the biggest trains you will ever see!) I thought it was pretty interesting and I'm not into trains, all the people volunteer there and are train junkies!

There is one downtown Downers Grove that we like because it's right across from the train station and you can see trains coming and going.

Have fun at whichever you decide to go to!

We have been to the All Aboard Diner in Downers Grove and Choo Choo Johnny's in Naperville. Both places are a lot of fun, but I must say that the food is pretty bad at both locations. The food at Choo Choo Johnny's was a little bit better. Obviously, we don't go there for the food though.

Choo Choo Johnny's is fairly new, and it is quite a bit bigger than All Aboard Diner. But both restaurants are a lot of fun for the kids, and there is nothing more exciting than having your food delivered by a train!

There are 2 right in your area. One is on 75th & Lemont Rd in the strip mall, and there is a smaller one located in downtown Downers Grove off Main St (by Tivoli movie theatre). We took my son to the one on 75th on his 2nd bday, and he couldn't sit still since he was in complete amazement of all the trains. I highly recommend either one.
