My two year old won't take anything for his fever. Getting him to drink motrin or tylenol is very difficult. He has a fever and I have tried the cup that comes with toddler's motrin. I have tried the syringe. How can I get him to take it without spitting it out. I tried doing the inside the cheek way....he chokes or spits out and it's really hard. Any ideas how to get him to take it for his fever? My two older ones always took it with no problem so I don't know how to get him to stop spitting it out. I have tried cherry and orange flavors. Do I have to get another flavor to try and find out that he will spit that out too? Please help. Thanks.

My daughter did the same thing and would spit it at me. She would get terrible ear infections so she not only needed it for the fevers but to help with the pain. My doctor prescribed tylenol suppositories and they worked wonders. She is 20 years old now so I am not sure if you can get them over the counter or not. The fever would go down so quickly, quicker then taking it orally. They were so easy to use sometimes when she would be burning with fever I was able to use them without waking her during then night. I would feel her head 15 minutes later in her sleep and she would be cool. You just have to put a small amount of vaseline on the tip and insert. You can do it during a diaper change and just distract him with a toy. It doesn't hurt and at least you know they are getting the full dose. Good luck

a fever is the bodys way to fight infection, why would you want to stop that process?

Thanks to the mom, who recommended or suggested Tylenol suppository. What a saver!! My absolutely hates taking medicine; he has no reaction, he.justq simply despises it; we tried mixing with juice, applesauce, convincing him with a toy, every thing and nothing works. The suppository is an excellent suggestion. Will keep you posted.

I think we mostly switched to the chewable tablets at that age, too. If possible, encourage your child to be in control, which can help. My son started fighting that when he was really sick and was getting it regularly to control a high fever. One thing that helped was adding a small amount of cranberry juice or gatorade to mask the flavor a bit, but only as much as fits in the medicine cup with the medicine. Let your son try holding his own medicine cup if he feels better to do so.

Try the chewables. They work just as well as liquid.

offer a straw? offer a bribe? mix it in juice?

i have had a few instances w a feverish child being held down and pushing syringe down her throat (she was 2)...she has since decided she prefers sitting up and sipping it herself (age 3).

good luck. also best flavor is berry. grape sucks!doesnt taste appetizing at all!

Definately time for chewable tablets. Once my kids hit about 18 months they didn't want to do the liquids any more. I remember having to split antibiotics in half because they didn't come in the correct strength for a child that young.

My son is the same way. I use the dropper thingy and squeeze it in to a 3 quarter full juice box and give it to him. you need one of the stronger flavors like grape, berry, or punch. somthing light like apple juice and he' ll be on to you! good luck!
