I have a 2-year old that blinks hard/repeatedly when she needs to focus on things that are far away or when extremely tired. I've read it could be a stage she's going through - like a nervous habit. But, I wanted to get her checked out by a children's optometrist.

Can you recommend a children's optometrist in San Diego? I'm willing to drive anywhere in San Diego county.

Thank you!

I don't live in your area, but may I suggest checking through your insurance carrier? Or, talk to your pediatrician-- it may be that even if you don't have vision coverage, it could be referred as a 'medical' visit and they'll refer you to someone who does well with children.

Just trying to save you some money-- we did a vision exam for our son a month ago and had to suss this stuff out.
Good luck.

Your insurance carrier, as someone else mentioned, should be able to tell you where to go. I would definitely go to an opthomologist (I've have tried spelling it eight different way and none of them are right) instead of an optometrist. My oldest started wearing glasses when she was three, and the doctor said they would've had her in glasses when she was one if I had brought her in.

My 19 month old has been squinting a lot and i mentioned it to the pediatrician. She put in a referal for him to see the ophthalmologist, which is an actual md with more education than an optometrist. I think you are better off finding one of those. Ours will be covered through medical insurance not vision. You will be able to find the nes that are in your network, and limit your options. Good luck!

You want an opthamologist-pediatric. Not optometrist.

The best in San Diego is the Ratner Eye Center near UCSD. Dr. Granet is renowned for pediatric opthamology. Expect a long wait, so bring snacks and entertainment! Their number is ###-###-#### - My daughter has been treated by him, she had a minor issue (I brought her there for a second opinion after the first Dr. was dismissive of my concerns). My friends son had a really complex issue and she was really pleased with the care and outcome.
