hey ladies! it started last Tues my 3 yr old was having trouble peeing. I had noticed he was a little red & irritated On his little pee pee. we went to Dr they did uti test. it came back clean.he seemed like he was doing a little better the next day or 2 but I noticed his potty habits still seem off. so here we are a week later.. this past Tues he said the same thing i have to go pee & when we go he says mommy I cant! He does get a couple drops out at a time. but after that you can tell he has to go hes doing a full on potty dance. after a little bit of time he finally goes. well we went back to the Dr 2 days ago did another uti test came back clean again.they said they were also going to send it off for a urine culture. all she said she can still see a little red close to the pee pee hole & to put hydrocortisone cream on it. anyways wondering if any of you have gone through this or think it could be something else?

What can I do next?

Has he been swimming alot? Perhaps the culture will come up with an answer. Does he have pain when he potty's? I think I'd see a Pediatric Urologist and not let it go on any longer-those cultures can take up to two weeks.

I agree with Brandi...best to see a urologist. My cousin's toddler was having similar problems, and they had to do a surgery to open the hole. Watch the stream...if the flow of urine never seems strong (and he's just getting drops out like you describe), then it might not be a UTI. It was painful to watch my nephew go through the procedures, but he's happy and healthy now! Good luck.

That happened to my daughter in the fall, same thing, went to the dr, everything came back clean. What we think it was, she was playing in a friend's sand box wearing shorts, and think sand got in her, and hurt when she pee'd..., not sure what else to tell you, but Good Luck, hope your little man feels better soon!!

Is he drinking enough? Watch his fluid intake for the day. If enough isnt going in not much will come out and what will come out will be concentrated and will burn. Went through this with my daughter. She didnt want to stop playing long enough to eat and drink properly. So now I watch her fluid intake very closely.
Good luck with your son!

i work for a urologist and we have this happen ALL THE TIME. we also have a pedi urologist here in the office. i would recommend you bringing him in. it could be something sooo small like a infection, or it could be something more serious like an actual problem with his urethra. we would do a bladder scan on him to see if he is actually retaining urine in his bladder. if he is, that is something that you would want to get taken care of soon before it causes other health problems like kidney infections. you dont want you baby to go through that. sooo... in my oppinion i would send him to a pedi urologist, OR ask his PCP if they can do a bladder scan on him. and even though its NOT fun, you may want to consider a catheter urine specimen. 3 year olds cant REALLY give a good clean catch specimen...

we had the same thing and a top urologist said it is because his urine hole is too small. This happens frequently and they use a steroid cream to open it up a little. I would bring this up and a urologist should check for this before doing anything more invasive.

my son went through this and they said it could be fungal or just irritated. It cleared itself up in a few days.
