Hey ladies!!
I wanted to see what y'all thought before I bug my pediatrician. My 4 yr old has been potty trained for a year or so and she can hold it forever! I have to remind her all the time to go or she waits until she almost has a accident. Depending on how much she drinks she will go about 4 times a day and pee forever! Last night she said she had to pee and she did pee but it was like every 20 minutes. She peed about 6 times before bed. She doesn't have any fever and doesn't complain of it hurting to go or anything so im not sure if it could be a uti or what? Neither of us have ever had one but I thought they hurt?? Could it be she is just peeing now more often when she feels it instead of me having to remind her? Im a worry wart so calm me down or tell me to high tail it to the pedi! She hasn't been more thirsty and everything is as it always was except this. She's gone about 5 ti.es since we got up at 7 this morning. Let me know what y'all think!
Thank y'all :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies!! She doesn't act any different and isn't any more thirsty than usual. She's been taking showers but one time last week I was rinsing her lady part and she said I did it too hard? Ill just watch her today and if she still is doing this ill get a test or appointment. I don't want my sidekick in any pain!

I would call the Dr and get his/her opinion. IF it is an infection, better to catch it now when it doesn't hurt.

I would call her ped, just to be safe. Is she drinking a lot? I don't mean to scare you, but excessive thirst is a sign of diabetes. I think it's worth a call to the doctor.

It could also be that her bladder is still playing catch-up with her growth. Also if she is drinking a lot through the day that could be contributing to it.

It sounds like it could be a UTI or bladder infection. They don't always burn in pain. She needs to go to the pediatrician where they'll want to get a clean catch sample of urine to test, and do a quick exam. She might not have a fever if it's a bacterial infection, but during an exam she might have a sore bladder or soreness elsewhere.

My nearly-9 yr old has a UTI, and she did have the burning and pain. But she also had poor appetite, more tiredness, and her color was pale (well, more pale than usual, she's very fair). She's no more or less thirsty than usual and wouldn't be.

I went to CVS and bought a kit from AVO to test her urine for a UTI (it was $12 and it was BOGO free, 3 to a box) since we couldn't get to a doctor during the power outage last week. I let her pedi know over the phone so thank goodness he called an Rx in and it's working. He normally would insist on seeing her but we were several towns away without a car thanks to that stupid storm last week :-( and called the Rx into the pharmacy half a mile down the street from where we were staying with my brother.

My UTI's don't hurt. I either have to pee nonstop though, or I can't feel when I have to pee.

My boy went through a stage where he had to go every 10 minutes. I thought he was joking half the time, but everytime he went I could hear him going. I started doing all the home remedy stuff our moms would've done - lots of water and lots of cranberry. It helped, but he does go pretty often still. I think he just wants to see the inside of every public bathroom in Texas.

Does she take bubble baths or play in the tub with soapy water? Our son went through this and after a visit to the ped. and a urologist, tests, sonogram, etc. (everything was normal/no infections) the urologist said it is common for kids who have bubble baths or play in soapy bath water to get soap in the urethra which causes an irritation and gives them the sensation that they need to go. A week or two after he stopped playing in soapy/bubbly water, he was back to normal. He said to encourage our son to try and go a little more once he thinks he is done peeing just to make sure he really empties his bladder. He also said that this is more common in girls.
If she does play in soapy water, I would stop and see if the problem goes away. You could have her checked, just in case, too.

If she's going a lot more often, it could be worth the trip to the pediatrician to rule out a UTI.

Any major change in her habits is significant. It's sometimes better to be safe than sorry...especially where urinary tract health is concerned! A UTI can set back potty training by MONTHS.
