Thyroglossal Duct Cyst in 16Month Old Baby

Hi, we've noticed the last 4 weeks that my daughter has developed what looks like an adams apple. But it's round and a little soft and bobs up and down when she swallows. I did research and thought it could be a thyroglossal cyst, and when I went in for a checkup I asked the doctor about it and that's what he thinks it is too, although he hasn't seen many cases of them, he's pretty sure that's what it looks like. So he sent us to an ENT doctor, which we have an appointment with next week.
I've been doing more research and thyroglossal duct cysts have been linked to SIDS due to the size in the neck and sometimes can restrict airways or make it hard to breathe. I found this out because yesterday when I got my little girl up from bed in the morning, she had blue lips! I was wondering if maybe her head was turned in the right way so she had less air. It took 15 minutes for her lips to come back to their rosy little self. I stayed up holding her all night because I am so scared she will just fall asleep and never wake up! She has been fine since, but I can't get into the ENT until Monday. Has anyone had anything like this happened before, or is anyone a doctor out there or anything? I'm sort of freaking out, yet trying to stay a calm mommy. Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We saw an ENT today and she will be having surgery to have the cyst removed. I'm scheduling the surgery tomorrow. He said the cyst isn't related to the blue lips. Needless to say, when my husband wrapped the playpen up to go to someone's house, he found a periwinkle colored marker in there. Stinker. Maybe that was it. She is okay right now. We will just be happy to get this over with! She will be in the hospital a couple of days after the surgery, and then hopefully we won't have to worry about it again. Thanks to you all for your suggestions!

How scary for you!

Just a thought... Two of my friend's kids had sleep apnea and wore a monitor to alert her when they stopped breathing so she could jolt them awake. Perhaps this could give you some peace of mind so you can all rest.

Best of luck!

Buy an Angel Care monitor and put it under her mattress. THe alarm will go off if she stops breathing. I used one with both of my girls and it truly worked. Not just a gimmick.

My son had a huge mass on the back of his neck, it was golf ball sized. They removed it probtly. I think it was a few days till they could get us into outpatient and they wanted two ped surgeons there to remove it. Well he turned blue and was so pale. They thought that was the case but they found out during his work up that he had two holes in his heart, an artery that should had severed at birth and VSD. Well it turned out all the heart problems were causing the sweating, blue color and pale... not to mention the failure to thrive. The mass wasn't helping but the heart was making it terrible. Although I was told if he turned blue to rush him to the ER. I'm suprised you didn't. You should have at least called. That is very dangerous. If before Monday anything like that happens run not walk to the ER. He isn't getting enough oxygen. Like I said I'm suprised you weren't told that.

But now that his mass is gone he is doing much better. He's back on his curve but that is 4 surgeries later. So you might have a long road ahead of you. Took 3 surgeries to get the mass completely out. It kept growning back. He had to be aggressive for it to be gone.
