The Grocery Game Question?

I signed up for the Grocery game and I am still on a trial base. I just wanted to make sure this is going to be worth it and since I have seen some of you ladies rave about this I had one question for you.
I normally shop at Wal-Mart and on the grocery game my choices are Kroger and Tom Thumb (and CVS or Walgreens). I like to cook from scratch, which means I do not buy pre-packaged meals (hamburgers helper….etc) and I cook with fresh veggies or frozen. Is the grocery game going to be worth my while since the coupons are mostly for packaged meals or canned goods? We really do need to save up since I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have to save up from now for my maternity leave to cover bills. Should I not bother with the grocery game and just go buy the Sunday paper just for coupons. I have never ever used coupons and it’s time to wise up and take advantage of it , I just need to know if it’s going to be worth paying the fee at the grocery fee based on my needs or get the Sunday paper?

It worked great when I was a working mom b/c I took advantage of all of the "convenience foods" but now that I am a SAHM and cook alot from scratch I don't use it much at all. Coupons can be great...especially if you use a store that doubles them.

I've learned to "Stock Shop" rather than just buying what I need for the moment and find some really great sales. Like, if you see frozen carrots on sale buy a few more bags than normal for the great price...I buy alot of canned goods and purchase about 5 cans every time I go to the store. I also buy things like bagged noodles, dry beans and bag rice...all pretty cheap to keep on hand for those weeks when money is a bit tight. We love Red Beans & Rice, Chicken Noodle bake and others that are only a couple of dollars to fix. Hope this helps a bit.

Since you mostly will want it for baby items and household items I would recommend using www.couponmom.com. It's a little more cumbersome, but free! It also has lists for Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens - which can be a big help.
By the Sunday paper and do couponmom rather than GG, it will be more worth it for you.

Definitely agree with the poster about using couponmom vs TGG. Why pay for something you can get free and quicker? You might check Yahoo Groups for a coupon group near you. I personally favor DFW Coupon Cuties. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/DFWCOUPONCUTIES/

I personally love the grocery game, and I too love to cook from scratch.

I am a working mom so I don't really have the time to look through all the ads myself to find the best deals on everything. I can just go to one website and get them all. I find it useful for household items, medicines, baby items, and meat especially. There are also coupons for items that are not pre-packaged meals such as canned soups (all of your condensed soups, creams of's, etc.), you can find out who has the best deals on fruits in veggies in the produce sections, etc.

I love the grocery game and think it is definitely worth the money and time.

I agree w/ the previous post. It didn't end up working out in our household, and the gg isn't updated quickly enough for the HEB by our house. It's a nice idea, but I go organic for the most part and produce isn't their focus.

1st Congrats on being PG agaiN! YAY
2nd... honestly because we eat fresher and don't buy a lot of frozen food, I've determined that is why the GG failed our household.
I did as well shopping sales and making a food plan, as well as reading these ladies' tips.
