What have you found helps best with the pain of teething? My 7 month old is obviously suffering. He doesn't like anything cold. I've tried giving him frozen fruit to chew on but he wants nothing to do with it. The teething tablets don't seem to last very long for him either. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the tips! The motrin really helped him through the nights. I am still trying out some of your suggestions, I've actually found he loves chomping on a spoon! Those mesh feeders are wonderful too.

Hyland's Teething Tablets are the best! They disolve under the tongue. I used them with my 21 month old son and am now using them for my 5-1/2 month old daughter. They work great and are homeopathic.

Have you tried the Baby Oragel? You just rub a little on their sore and swollen gums. It seems to have helped my little guy...sometimes a little bit of Tylenol helps too! Good luck!

K.,
I have used "Orajel swabs" for infants. They are Q-tips filled with orajel, berry flavor, i have never used the whole q-tip but I have rubbed on my son's gums and it seemed to have relieved him. I tried to do 1/2 hour prior to bed time and not right after I have given him milk or fed him.
My son wouldn't do the frozen things or the tablets either.

Good luck.....

I have two children that have had a hard time teething. I have found that the Highlands teething tablets take the edge off. You can find them all most anywhere in the natural food section. Then there is also good old Motrin and Tylenol. Have you tied frozen banana's? Good luck!

I gave my little girl the Oragel Q-Tips that Target has. As soon as I got it on her gum, she stoped crying. I was the only thing that worked great.

Hyland's homeopathic teething tablets during the day work well for us. We use Tylenol during the day if absolutely necessary, and we absolutely use Motrin at night. Other comfort measures: take a baby washcloth and get it wet, twist it up, shape it into an 'o' and lay it in a bowl in the freezer; use a mesh baby feeder to hold frozen organic baby carrots, peas, green beans, or just ice cubes; Sophie the giraffe.

The teething tabs from 1800HOMEOPATHY work well. Remember with homeopathy you have to keep it in their system. So when they are in pain ie acute- they 2 tas every 15 minutes until a shift, then every 2 hours.

A frozen wet clean wash cloth, rolled up like a tortilla. Place a clean damp wash cloth in a baggie in the freezer, give to the child to play with, suck on and recycle in the washing machine.

I find that a wet washcloth works really good , I wet it with cold water than ring it out really good. My son will chew on it and it seems to help, I also piggy back the teething tablets with baby tylenol, switching them every three hours.

A little about me :
I am a 31 year old mother of three. 12 year old , 5 year old and 14 month old.

Hyland's teething gel worked for us, but I think they might not make it with Belladona anymore...
Also the fruit in a mesh bag thing. And I always let him chew on my fingers when on my lap.

With both my girls i used a switch of the hylands teething tablets and baby oragel. during the day i would switch back and forth between the two, but if the teething tablets dont help your son, use the oragel night time relieff with is stronger then the day relief. if that fails you'll have to use tylonal which should most likely work.

K., My friend used beef jerkey strips for her grandson and it was great. He would put it in his mouth and "gum" it. It would get wet and then she would switch ends and then when it was wet, she let it dry and use it again. No shredding because he never really ate it like we do. He could not pull it apart. Try that and see if it works for your son.

I am a mother of three and grandma of 10....plain beef jerky works wonders. Watch them of course..sit with the child and let him knaw away...worked for me and all my grandchildren and i swear by plain beef jerky. Give it a try.

My son wouldn't teeth on any of the "normal" things, and I refused to give him those soft plastic teethers (toxins). He acutually liked to chew on the cloth diapers (not used for that purpose!) we used for burp cloths. He would just chew on the fabric. We would also rub his gums sometimes. We applied children's Ambesol (sp?) to his gumsat night oand infant Tylenol to suppress the pain long enough for him to fall asleep and stay asleep for at least a few hours. Good luck! Teething is no fun :(

If it's not too late - frozen bagels! Or 1/4 of a frozen bagel - we started with cinnamon raisin.

Hi K.,
My daughter does not like the frozen stuff either. She prefers a cool wet wash cloth, the other thing she enjoyed was placing fresh fruit in a mesh bag on a ring. I can't think of what it is called right now. Sorry. Anyhow we placed fresh apples in it pears she loved it and it soothed her poor little gums. also try buying a beginner tooth brush that you can slip over your finger and just rub his gums with.
Good luck.

With my first two children, Hyland's teething tablets worked well. With my third, teething has been a lot more difficult and I finally broke down and gave her a wee bit of Motrin. I gave her half the dose recommended for her age/size and it helped. I used it in the evening as she was ok during the day but had a lot of fussing trying to settle down to sleep. A half-dose of Motrin was enough to get her to settle down, nurse to sleep and be able to sleep in pretty much her normal pattern. I try to stay away from allopathics but in this case, it was the best option. So you might want to consider a wee bit of Motrin especially if he's having trouble sleeping.

Oh K.! I know exactly what you are going through! My son is 7 months also and has his 2 bottom teeth. It took them forever to break through! I use teething tablets every few hours, tylenol and a baby toothbrush! Believe it or not, a toothbrush gives my son the "oral fix", the bristles relieve the irritated gums and its easy to wipe off all the slobber and keep sanitized. Good luck.

My husband discovered otter pops... I know it's way to much sugar so I started to freeze jucie and make our own jucie pops. It worked for all three of my children.

A teething ring may help. You could maybe try refrigerating it instead of freezing it, and if that still doesn't work try cold water. My mom used to give us really tough bread crusts.

hi K..
my sister-in-law was from germany and she used to have her son wear an amber necklace...yes, the yellow stone! he started teething early, around four months, and she bought it for him by six months because he was miserable. it did seem to keep his fussing down and he didn't drool as much either! it was a necklace of amber beads. i know amber cost alot but she decided it was well worth the cost! hope this helps.
