My daughter feels better within 15 minutes of getting Hyland's Teething Tablets. I wish I'd had these for my first two!! I started using them with her first couple teeth around 5 months and she didn't like me putting them in her mouth. Now at 9 months when she sees one coming toward her she opens her mouth for it! I think she knows that they make her feel better! Her temp goes down, her running nose alleviates, and her crabbiness disappears!

You can find them at most drug and discount stores, but there are other homeopathic brands at stores like GNC/SuperSupplements also.

I don't know if anyone else suggested it already, but the little mesh feeders they sell are fantastic for teething if you put a frozen piece of fruit or a small ice cube in them. The cold numbs the pain and the rough mesh feels good on the gums. My daughter would (and still will even at 14m old) chew/suck on an ice cube in one of these until is was completely melted.

Motrin (ibuprifin) is definitely the best pain reliever. I only used it at nighttime and it worked great to help her get to sleep.

Rub Num-zit on his gums. Give him frozen mini-bagels to chew on. You can get these at Costco by the big bag. Throw them in the freezer. He gum them to pieces. Watch so he doesn't get big pieces off, but this worked for my kids as well. But tablespoons in the freezer. Give him one to pound with and he'll be gumming on that nice cold metal as well. Your nerves may frazzle a bit, but he will be happy making noise and get some comfort at the same time. Knowing he's got your attention makes him happy as well!!!!

Hyland's Teething Tablets. Look for a pink, white, and blue box or ask the pharmacist; at my Target they are behind the counter. They are tiny and dissolve quickly so no chewing. They have worked for my daughter since she started teething. When my daughter won't eat due to teething I give her these and it usually only takes about 5-10 min and she will eat.
Hope your little guy feels better.

My little guy really liked any of his toys that were textured. One in particular was star shaped and vibrated when pressure was applied to any of the points. Each point had a different texture, and he just liked to rub it on his gums.

Although, I'm sure this will make some cringe, crushed ice worked too. We didn't use the ice much, but he really enjoyed it when he got to crunch on the cold wet cubes.

I'm a single mother as well. My son is now 5, but when he was that age, I hated seeing him so irritated with teething. He wouldn't take anything but warm things on his teeth. Strange huh? Well, a few things that worked for us was homeopathic teething tablets (fairly priced good and found at most grocery stores) and I would take Baby Orajel and massage it into his gums. Massaging really seemed to help with the pain. Stores also have a product that has baby gum cleaning gel and a special rubber brush you place on your finger to massage your baby's gums. This worked well too. Good luck! *hug*

infant tylenol is always a good one. just be sure you ask your doctor for the right dosage. another one is herbal teething tablets. you can get them at Bartell or Fred Meyer. they are in the baby aisle.

Not sure if your son uses a pacifier... What worked for my daughter was putting her pacifier in the freezer and letting her chew on that. Also, all natural teething tabs you can get at Walmart, Fred Meyer, etc...seemed to help.

Hang in there, it gets better. I know how you feel!

Hi S.,
I have 3 kids and for each of them I used Teething Tablets and a small dose of Motrin (worked better then Tylenol). It worked for all of them.

Good luck ;)

Another homeopathic options is called Camilia. I get it at Marlene's but have also had our Fred Meyer special order it for me at no extra cost. I don't recall if Gripe Water is also supposed to help or not.

It's been many years for me but I used to use beef jerky. I would use the long pieces so that they couldn't shove the whole thing in their mouth and choke and I never left them alone with it.
The toughness of the beef jerky seemed to help with some of the pain & they liked the taste of it. It's a slobbery mess but the relief for mom and baby are well worth the slobbers!!

A friend of mine gave her daughter a big slap of beef jerky to chew on. It's too tough to be bitten off and choked on, but it's tough enough to soothe the gums. Makes an awful mess, but I never heard her daughter fuss while she was chewing it.

Teething is so cruel to these little guys. My daughter has her 10th tooth coming in and man, I hope the next 10 go easier for her.

What really helps here (other than tylenol - that stuff is a miracle!) is ice or frozen fruit in a mesh bag with a ring handle attached. I got hers at Freddy's. I don't know what they're called but when you see them you'll know what I'm talking about. If you're not giving your baby solids yet you could also try frozen milk or "momsicles".

Good luck. It's so tough for baby and mom!

I sometimes give my 7-month-old daughter baby carrots to chew on. They are a good size for her to hold in her fist, big enough that she can't choke on them and she can't bite off chunks, just jaw on it.

- Tylenol
- Ibuprofen
- NumbGums (or oragel, etc.)
- Frozen Bananna
- Marrow Bone
- Slushy frozen bottle (milk/formula/whathaveyou)

- And for a laugh, :) not a serious recommendation - Did you know down South they still use a whiskey & sugar paste? Disturbing, isn't it? Not as disturbing as teething tablets with Belladonna & all the drugs in them, but still! You don't know the number of times my in-laws have tsked at me for not using "Just a dab o' whiskey and sugah, darlin'!" Granted, I'm sure that made more sense before antibiotics and dental rinses and Tylenol were readily available, but THAT was a long time ago.

The best thing is Motrin! It is the swelling that is causing so much pain, and the only way to bring the swelling down is to use an anti-inflammatory.

Okay, this is going to sound GOOFY! It works!!!!!

At GNC they sell Clove Oil... it's about 5 or 6 dollars. dab some of this oil onto a q-tip and run it between their toes. Feet have nerve endings - and by doing this - you're getting the the tooth nerve. STRANGE, I know. But it really does work!

Each time my little guy got crazy with teeth pain - I tried it - and it immediately settled him down. I know it's hookie - trust me - but it really, really works.

Caution - do not put this in their mouth. the oil is too strong - and will burn gums. make sure to put socks or a sleeper on them so they can't get their feet in their mouth.

remember getting an absessed tooth? the dentist always packs it with cloves... same theory.

Let me know if it works for your little one. and again, TRY IT. IT WORKS!

:)

I second that with the teething tablets. I got them at our local PCC or Whole Foods Market. Any of the Super Supplements should have them also.
Good Luck!

try popcilces... They taste good and soothe... And these days you can find low sugar/no sugar ones that won't make you feel guilty for giving him a bunch of sugar. Good luck
