TB Test

I am a director of a preschool and we need all of our staff to have TB tests. Pregnant moms can have a doctor sign the form stating that the TB could not be done due to pregnancy. Our state licensing office accepts this. Perhaps your school district will too.

I am in the medical field so you can believe me when I tell you that the serum is perfectly safe. it does only go under the skin and nowhere else. It is not going to effect your baby at all. Plus, your baby will have to get one once in a while too. It is completely harmless.

When I was pregnant, my annual TB test came due, and my doctor said there was nothing to worry about, but I chose not to have it done, and the hospital let me wait until after my daughter was born. I had three negative skin tests before that, so that might be why they let it slide. You can always ask to wait until you've given birth, and if you've had one in the last year or so, it might help to have those results. It can't hurt to ask, but I've been told that it's okay, I just decided to err on the side of safety.

IF you've had a TB test within the last 10 years and haven't been exposed they do what is called a TB assessment and you don't have to have the actual test repeated. I was exposed to TB during my first pregnancy, received the test and had no problems at all! Hope this helps!

My OB told me the test would be safe, however he indicated I should wait until after I had delivered because the test wasn't considered valid when done on a pregnant person. It's been a while but if I remember correctly, you can get a false positive result when pregnant. It's been several years though and things might have changed.
