Hello again mommas...

My one year old son has a sweaty head. I thought, initially, that it was because of the hot weather, but now that it has gotten cold he still gets so sweaty! It's usually when I'm holding him, but also when he's in bed alone for his nap. When I'm holding him he starts to sweat on the side that is leaning against me, but sometimes his whole head gets sweaty, to the point where his hair looks as if he's just gotten out of the bath. He can leave wet spots on my shirt, skin, and even the bedsheets. But it's only his head, and occasionally he'll get beads of sweat on his little nose. I brought it up to the pediatrician, and she thought it seemed strange that it was just his head, and suggested I take his temp when it happens. He doesn't have a fever, and I don't overdress him or pile a million blankets on him. He doesn't seem uncomfortable or bothered by it at all. I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar thing happen with their child and if I should press the pediatrician to check on anything in particular. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I have the same thing with my 4 year old. He sweats a lot in general, esp. when he is playing outside. Sometimes I pick him up from daycare, and it looks like he just came out of the shower. His head is also very sweaty at night. It seems to be in the beginning when he falls asleep, then after a while, it seems to go away. I have a 2 year old who does not sweat at all, so I don't think it's anything to worry about. I did mention it to my pediatrician and he did not seem concerned.

My 5 year old was like that, and still is at times. He sweats horribly when he sleeps.

I have a sweaty baby too. Both he and I have a hot body temperature. I know I make my husband sweat just by laying next to me, and I don't have a fever. I'm just a furnace and evidently my son is too. I think it's OK - just make sure you dress him in layers so you can remove as needed. He also sweats against me too and it tends to just be his head as well. Don't sweat it! Ha ha... :)

When my 2.5 yr old is sweating, I take off a layer of clothes or pull the blanket down off of his neck and it seems to help. I also remove socks, as socks are the 'thing' for me to help maintain a comfy temp. I figure it may be my son's 'thing' too. Males have more blood than women, so are generally more warm than females. So if you are cold, he may be just fine. If you are warm, he may be hot.

are you serious? get a new pedi! any kids body part touching yours is going to make sweat happen. no matter when id hold my daughter the parts of us that touched were sweaty by the end. id put a spit up rag/light blanket between us to absorb it.

Kids do tend to heat up during naps. One daycare I worked for insisted that if we thought a child was feverish after naps, to wait a half hour and take their temp again before calling parents. Good call on their part. I've nannied a lot of 'sweaty-head' babies in my day, and so be rest assured, they heat up and cool down--it's very common.

I would definitely monitor the situation with your pediatrician and keep researching, however, as a life long "head sweater," I am with your son on this one. I sweat a lot, everywhere, no matter where I am and how fit I am, but I do 90% of my sweating from my head (it is really fun at parties, when it looks like I have showered, after dancing for a few tunes). Based on experience with my son, he is exactly the same. He hasn't gotten to the beads of sweat on his nose, but he was a sweaty sweaty guy, especially from his head- he would have wet collars and wet hair, but no wet body. I would say the more independent he has become, running around, etc. (particularly after 18 months), he has become less sweaty than he was when he was a baby, but he is still prone to it.

Anyway, I hope this helps put your mind at ease a bit, though I am sure it is something to monitor.

Take care and good luck,
E.

My son was a very sweaty baby. He was born at the end of June so I assumed it was from the weather, but he was sweaty in the winter too.
He was perfectly healthy in every way and being sweaty didn't bother him. He is still a "hot" sleeper at 15 and only sleeps in his underpants no matter how cool the house is.

I would guess your baby is just fine. My baby did the same thing.

Best wishes!
